My 105 petrol engine is coming close to 200000 k,s. I have read that they dont have a timing belt but a chain and it doesnt need replacing, i have also seen people argue that it does have a belt and does need changing.

I can find nothing on the net to indicate it has a belt, but a chain. Can anybody here confirm this.

The 1FZFE engine in the 105 has a chain.
Read the manual and it will say if it should be changed and at what mileage. If it's not in there it's because it doesn't need changing. Most chains don't.

I've just looked on the net (I have access to the world wide version) and it says the chain shouldn't need replacing. It came up in several threads on this engine.

The old MB diesels used a chain, sometimes they'd stretch a bit, but it was often the slides and tensioner that gave out.
