Hi,
Does anyone know the maximum tip-over angle an 80 series (with a roof tent on
top) can go to without falling on it's side?

45 degrees, but you'd have to ensure your centre of gravity is as low as
possible!

Chas,
Mine didn't go on its side when I slipped down the dune sideways - I was
just on 45 degrees I think

It depends on a LOT of factors.
generally 40degrees is a realistic maximum- but if you can find me someone who'll drive at that angle for a length of time then i'll be impressed- that angle is seriously "puckering".

Thanks James, it won't be me you'll find driving at that angle, I hate side slopes, which was what prompted the question.
I'm thinking of getting an inclinometer so I know when I'm reaching the limit, I fully expect my limit will be a lot sooner than the limit of the Cruiser!

Well there's a blast from the past. Didn't you come down to West Wales in
your new 80 once and I took you down a green lane to places you never
thought you could go? Also go-carting and stuff.
Were you not going to Syria or somewhere soon after but the Gulf War got in
the way?
If so, how are you and how are you keeping?
If not, I do beg your pardon.

Well, it was never new, l'beast in my ownership...but yes, I did go to
Wales, and didn't want to damage l'beast because I couldn't afford to get it
fixed...so I was careful in driving it - conversely in North Africa, I don't
worry so much....a paradox I know....and further, I've never had RR-FR diff
working so its all done with driver skill and central diff only...
45 degrees is quite a lean though.... and it did happen to me in Libya and
Algeria, and driving at that angle for a while is a little scary, even for
me. I was fully loaded down with about a tonne of stuff, but had a very low
centre of gravity...

Yep. Nasty things those go-carts. Never been on one since. :)
So you did go to Africa in your Cruiser. Did you drive it back or are you
both still there?

Hi Huw
No I'm back in the UK, as is da beast - never failed me once; I've had him
since 2000 and have been back to northern Africa several times. I last
worked in southern Africa a few years ago but I have FULL and EVERY
intention to go back to sunnier climes!
And you? Any plans for the future re offroading places to go and visit?
