Tow Hitch Info

Hi All
This is my first post to this interesting group. On Wednesday I became
the very proud owner of a 1994 HDJ80 with a mere 66 000 miles on the
clock. What a fine vehicle!!!
My first question:
Is the standard rear bumper ( mine has 4 holes in it) strong enough to
use for towing a trailer? My trailer has a Tare of 380kg and a GVM of
1500kg, however I can never imagine how I could get this huge weight on
it. Use will include off-road, possibly some severe off-road use.
I am planning on getting a tow ball and simply bolting it through a pair
of these holes with high tensile bolts.... is this a cheap and quick way
to problems?
Any advice appreciated

Hi Graham,
You can bolt a tow hook to the four holes in the chassis rails, but I
don't think it's rated for serious towing and have heard stories of it
bending so you are advised to get a proper tow bar from someone like
Witter that bolts on to the bottom of the main chassis rails running
along the length of the car as well as utilising those four bolt holes.

Hi,
If you fit a hook there you'll be pulling with the crossmember. A
proper towing/recovery attachment is bolted to the two longtitudinal
sections of the chassis frame, each side of the crossmember.
