Hi lads
Have burnt a few hours looking into the GPS software Tracks4Africa.
Looks like a good tool for an African Trip.
I know from the Smith Family had it on board.
Pete - is this on your shopping list?
Some good info and reviews on Horizons unlimited if anyone's
interested in researching further
Cheers
Niall

have been using it for a couple of years now. recently updated to 7.10, big
t4a community in sa, so if you have any questions i'd be pleased to answer
them - however since i'm painting the house at the mo. a skype call is
easier.

thanks Fred
will take you up on that when i know a bit more about it
first impressions are its like a lonley planet guide book - which are
a pain when you're trying to keep away from the tourist trail.
invaluable none the less!!

are we looking at the same thing? software maps that load into garmin
mapsource and gps receivers? these are electronic maps made be people who
have actually travelled those routes - they are great for planning and
looking up your closest food/fuel/accommodation when you're stuck in the
boonies. maybe not essential when your actually on the road but great for
pre-planning routes/expenditure/fuel stops etc.

Hi Niall
T4A was without any question of doubt the best value for money I
spent on our trip.
True, is does mean that if you are on a track, then that means someone
else has been there before and submitted a track.
We never used it for deciding on a route, we asked the 6 year old in
the back for that, but we did use it to confirm our position in
relation to other available tracks. We used it to find camp sites in
places with few... and it was fantastic at finding your way around
cities such as Addis and Khartoum...
As an aside I have GPS data for a couple of alternative tracks in the
western desert. One of which I made myself, the other a gift from a
local guide -just email me if you would like it.
Cheers

Hi Graham
Excellent. Wasn't going to go the techno route but will make life a
hell of a lot easier and in keeping with the fact that it is a holiday
- going to get it.
That would be great - trust there's a few coke stops along the way -
the least I'd expect when there's a 6 year old in the navigation seat!
:)
Jeff has give me some good stuff previously. You can ping me @
