Transfer case fill points

Hi All,
have just changed all the fluids on my 105 series Landcruiser
and wanting to know what the bung is on the top off transfer case is for ??

good question, ive often thought the same on my h151f.

best ive come up with is a fill point for filling with oil on the production line.
 
Is it not a blanking plug for an unused sensor / switch?
 
On some cars, Hondas in particular, there are three bungs, one is the drain obviously, the middle one is the level plug which isn't easily accessed so they provide one high up as fill point, could that be the same thinking here.
 
If I read this yesterday I would have been able to tell you, I wonder if it is an entry point to be able to turn the pump below it for refitting / alignment purposes?
