trips with cruiser

Hi guys
I had a thought, thats two today WOW.
Anyway I remember some one was talking about transporting a cruiser to SA a
while back.
Now my question is does any one know what it would cost to transport a
cruiser to the US or Aus or NZ. return.
Just another thought sorry.
The reason im asking is I was wondering if it would make sence to ship the
cruiser to somewhere like that and then have it for an overland trip in that
country.
I know every one seems to go to Africa but.

You can ship your cruiser, in a container, anywhere in the world for
something between 1000euro (won't get you far) and 5000euro. Lots of
price differences between companies and routes. Single trip that is.
For some that's not a lot of money... for others it is ;-)
We considered doing Aus, but it was not economicly viable for us.
Better buy/rent there. Advantage of Africa or Asia is that you can
drive one leg of your trip and do the other by boat. That's a bit
harder to do when travelling Aus. Unless you ship to SE Asia an drive
home from there. Do not forget the additional costs to import/export
your own vehicle. Aussies have some very strict regulations.
Keep on thinking ;-)
Cheers,
Fred

Check out horizonsunlimited.com (try their BB too), loads of information there.
For Australia, you'll need a carnet de passage, which is an expensive
piece of paper, but you'll need it anyway if you want to overland
Africa and/or Asia.
The strict regulations I was referring to for aus are specificly the
quarantaine stuff. Cars has to be very, very clean and are inspected
thoroughly on this subject. There used to be a lot of info on
http://www.2cvaustralia.com on shipping cars into aus(doesn't matter
if it's a 2cv or a TLC), but I can't seem to find the info there.
Have fun,
Fred

Didn't know that was you... nice site (and nice trip!)! The carnet is
nothing new for you then. Aus should be no problem for you then ;-)

Hi Guys
I just got a quote for ? 1470 one way for the cruiser from southhampton to
Aus.
Thats only shipping and the guy said there is more to be added to that like
taxes, duties etc.
Maybe this was one of my mad ideas after all.
