Maybe anyone of you can help. Since my TLC 80 4.2 1993 returned from
the shop the TVSS system are not working. I usually lock the truck with
my key and then it activated the alarm. Now when locked the little red
light between the front seats does not blink. Any suggestions where I
can start looking to try to resolve the issue. Any documentation that
you can attach like photos etc. that can help me to start rectifying the
problem

Thanks in advance

Hi Willie,
What work did they do on the car? Sometimes if they have done work
around the area in the cab above the gearbox, they might have
accidentally knocked the alarm LED out of it's holder so it may still
be flashing, but hidden from view.

Hi Julian,
Thanks for the quick response. The garage people that worked on my
vehicle are German or rather Alamandish speaking, very little English.
We tried to understand each other in some way.
They did a number of things. Basically they got the car through the
vehicle inspection test in order for me to register it in Germany.
Adjusting the headlights, replaced the timing belt, replaced some of the
Aircon aluminum pipes and worked on the aircon making sure there were no
leaks. They worked on the wheel bearings and replaced the handbrake
brake shoe. They also worked on the power steering pump. It had a leak.
The alarm definitely does not work at the moment. They also could have
un plucked some wires maybe, I don't know. I know about the basics of
the engine but don't even know what to look for where in this case. I
don't know what the TVSS unit looks like and where it is located. I
have downloaded and printed the 80 series manuals. Someone posted them
on this site a while ago. Is there any instructions in there that you
know of?
It was much easier to work on my old Land Rover Series III 4 cylinder
1975 model with no electronics when we stilled lived in Namibia in the
80's and 90's.
Thanks in advance

1. is there some sort of actuator in the barrel lock that has gone wrong?
2. usually if you lock the the vehicle via the key in the drivers door it
automatically locks all the other doors and sets the alarm - leave the
window open and then pull up the door lock release and open the door - the
alarm should go off. at least that'll mean that it is working.

I hesitate to say this as I'm sure you've already checked, but did they
turn off some part of the alarm system with a manual key?
On my (UK spec) machine I supposedly have a TVSS system, although I'm
never quite sure exactly what it is. In the engine compartment there is
a horn and alarm unit with a (round) key for manual on/off. It's by the
windscreen wiper motor.
If you have this sort of setup they might have turned it off manually
with this, since some alarm systems go off when the main battery is
disconnected.
Just a thought.
