Valuation of my 40 for insurance

Hi all,

As some of you may know, Corinne and I are leaving these shores in June to live in Spain and we intend to take my BJ40 with us. On UK plates I have six months to get it registered in Spain or make regular trips back for MOTs and taxation so I've been shopping around for insurers to cover the truck on an extended green card, etc.

The most promising company so far is Spanish (Catalunya Insurance Services) because they cover custom and classic vehicles as well as ordinary vehicles and will change the registration as and when it gets registered in Spain (Everyone else want to cancel the policy and start again - which sounds/is expensive).

However CIS want my LCC membership number - no problem - and want a valuation by the club! As far as I'm aware we don't have an officer doing such valuations (unlike the NSRA but then they don't have LCs in their number!). How do we do this?

I suppose we could have a selection of members' opinions as to the realistic value and take an average but then it needs to be 'a valuation by the club'.

Can you help?

We bought the truck in 2002 and have built it up from then always with the intention of taking it with us to Spain. The alternative, if we cannot get insurance, is to sell it in the UK and buy another one in Spain and start again! Don't really want to do that 'cos we know just about every nut and bolt on this one!

Better include a picture for those valuers that don't know the truck

Hmmm - we produced a letter for Rob confirming membership, but didn't intimate a value. Not sure what liability we might attract if we state a value ...

Let me take this up with my learned colleagues!

Oh - and nice truck!

I appreciate that, Gary, and I certainly don't want to cause any grief but if it were a realistic estimate of value from say six or so club members and then an average taken from that doesn't that become a club valuation? i guess the crux is transmitting that information in an acceptable form.

I await the thoughts of your learned colleagues, however I would point out that the National Street Rod Association (NSRA) do this on a regular basis and can put you in touch with the offical concerned, if that helps.

Regards,

Firstly, many thanks to the administrators for their help in my trying to get cover for my truck during my emmigration to Spain. We are now well under way in getting long term overseas insurance sorted for my 40. And the prices don't seem too excessive either!

Gentlemen, thank you.

Secondly, in my searching I spoke to Heritage Classic & Specialist Car Insurance, who have a 'Classic 4x4' section and they knew what a BJ40 was without me having to explain. Now there's a first! Their rates were very competitive too.
