Vehicle Kit

Hi Chris,
I've just had a rear bumper & wheel carrier fitted by 4x4 R US
http://indigo.xilo.net/~landrove/ra...ufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1
They were very helpful in mounting the receiver hitch (included with the
bumper) within the bumper rather than below it as was their original
intention until I said I would prefer it within, so increasing the ground
clearance, they were happy to do that, they also fitted two 'feet' to rest
the wheel on when lifting it into place on the carrier, one thing I was
disappointed about was that they used 12mm bolts to mount the wheel instead
of the standard size wheel bolts (I'm not sure what size that would be) but
it meant normal wheel nuts could not be used. If I had known beforehand I
would have raised an objection. All in all though I am very pleased with
it, it is very tough, I backed into a lamp post without a mark on the
bumper, the swing-away release handle is very easy to use, total cost
was£1200 but I also had front & rear diff guards fitted at the same time.

I am looking for some advice, the Frogs Island cargo barrier - is it easy to
remove and replace or is it a semi or permanent fitment.
Any body have opinions on rear wheel carriers - ARB or Kaymar??? Quality of
the steel, the actual swinging bracket/bearings, tow hitch receiver etc????-
other makes?
ARB or TJM Bullbars? Other? - advice as above
Thanks

Hi Chris
I have the carrier that bolts to the rear wing and as Julian says it does
have its issues.
The locking mechanism is a little fussy and not reliable at times.
You can not buy parts for it and the rubber block fitted to the tailgate
wears out or falls out.
There is no restriction on the swing arm at all and with the weight of the
wheel and tyre when it swings back it goes too far.
This could pull the bolts or bolt out of the wing as happened mine.
I had to secure it with a rubber strap to restrict it.
Its a pain if you use your boot a lot for putting in stuff.
I took mine off and now just have a few holes where the bolts were but
great piece of mind.
cheers
