Clive,
Nice to see you respond and I am certainly sorry to hear that your
circumstances changed. But it looks like you are well rid of the PC. I got
another virus from it today - this time with a title about protection for
large members !
Julian,
Thanks but I had to start somewhere. I appreciate that these things do find
strange paths at times. Thanks for the offer of help with tracing it. Maybe
I will cut and paste all the header stuff which I can't understand and send
it to you. Unfortunately today's were deleted too.
cheers

This is really a note to all of you about viruses, etc.
In this day and age there is no excuse for anyone to get viruses,
particularly email borne ones - if you get one it is your own fault.
[LC content - not following these rules is equivalent to not servicing
your LC...ever!]
If you follow the following golden rules you should remain virus,
spyware and trojan free.
1. Keep all your operating system and browser software up to date -
windows users can use Windows Update for this - check at least once a
week - ideally set the option for Windows to check automatically each
time you log on.
2. Keep your email software up to date - if you are using Outlook
Express this will get upgraded with IE, otherwise with Outlook check
the MS Office Updates site, again at least once a week.
3. Run a personal firewall regardless of how often you connect to the
web - I strongly recommend something like ZoneAlarm by www.zonelabs.com
- they do a free version for private users - again make sure you keep
this up to date.
4. Get some antivirus software on your system - something like McAfee
Anti Virus, it's not that expensive when you consider the amount of
time you would spend if you got a virus.
If you follow these basic rules you shouldn't really have to worry
about the other stuff like not opening email attachments from unknown
sources, etc.
I have been following these steps for years and have yet to have a
virus hit my computer despite it processing over 1000 emails a day
(don't worry I don't read them all!).
If you need any specific help, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Jon,
This is definately not the PC. The one that I handed in was
stripped for spares in a few hours. It may be from the company server
that still has my old address on.
Regards, Clive.
