Hi,
I have been having a bit of trouble with the AC in my cruiser. I
am of the suspision that the viscous fan may not be working. Does
anyone know how to test them? I cannot remember if I have ever heard
it work.

Wait until your engine is cold.
Have the bonnet open.
Turn on your engine and stand in front of the engine.
The fan should "roar" for the first few mins and then die down until the fluid settles.
If after 5 mins it doesn't sound any different then u need the fluid changed or new fan.
I've hear u can change the fluid (saw it via 80scool years back) but I've not done it.
I have change my fan (as truck was overheating in the Colorado summer and on hill climbs) and that solved my overheating.
There is also a trick with newspaper over the front of the rad. but I can't remember exactly how that goes.

Thanks Brendan,
The next question has to be, does anyone know where to get the
fluid and which one. There are three types, 3000, 6000, and 10000 CST.

Hi Clive,
according to my experience exchanging fluid in some cases is not enough.
You should check also the state of the bi metal which is controlling the
flow of the fluid. In my case it was oxidized and I had to replace the
entire viscous fan.

p.s.
in my case it was on KZJ95
