Wales and Lakes - camping and greenlaning trip May 2013

Well just back from a great 4 days, a day and a bit in Wales with my wife and 2 days in Lakes (with my wife, Andrew T and Tom in a 110)

In wales drove Glyndwr's Way - Llangunllo, Rhayader golf course lane, another nearby, then Aberhosan, a lane near Bala leading to Wayfarer and Wayfarer itself (the boggy bit has been drained and resurfaced.

And in lakes, avoided Parkamoor this time due to vehicles being heavily loaded with RTT etc, and didnt go Sadgill either as its temp TRO at moment for repairs
but did some great lanes based around Hawkshead, and old coach rd in north, another lane near skiddaw and breasthigh Rd

quite a bit of damp and windy weather, but were dry in tent and foxwing usefull.

i had to winch up part of High Tilberthwaite when i took a bad line then rear diff was beached on a rock

only wildcamped one night on drive down. It was really windy in wales so wanted good sheltered spot to camp, so used campsites. And used campsite in lakes, but site owners not friendly so wont go there again and field poorly drained.

2 mins from the start of the fox, great for all the south lakes lanes.

Even better, the owner (Arthur) is a genuinely friendly farmer, and you're allowed camp fires. The pods and yurt's are reasonably priced, and mean you can use the site if travelling light, or in the wetter months! (all year)

I've stayed there dozens of times, it's a great base for a weekend's laning.

campsite looks good - is the field well drained though
and it has a pub close by too

will consider this one next time, as good being close to the start of Fox, as you really need to be on that lane at 9am or earlier to avoid meeting the "orange" landrover gang coming the other way...
