Warrens new 100 build

Bit of an update.

With all this SH one Tee weather we have had its been hard for me to get motivated and get outside. I have really enjoyed just driving the 100 around and getting used to her and the small things that each car has that makes it unique.

It has given me some time to sit in the cockpit and plan what i want to go where and how it might all work.

So today I managed to whip out the centre console and make a few changes that will enable me to have my switches where i want them to be. I hate things that don't look like the belong and have just been bolted or glued in place but thats just my OCD speaking.

So we went from this...

To this...

With the help of some fiberglass, body filler an angle grinder and some sanding.

It still needs a rub down with some sand paper and a bit of a spray and then i can fit the switches. I also plan to surface mount a small screen in the space to the left of the shifter to show tyre pressure and hope to add a few charging points at the top on the brown slope along with some USB charging points.

Cool do you wanna pimp my ride ?

Very nice trick there, placing the switches.

Bit of an update.

The finished product minus one seat heater switch that i need to fit. The top 2 sets of 3 switches take carling switches. I'm very happy and managed to match the interior paint perfectly.

W,

Is there enough space under there to take 6 Carling switches, they are quite deep, no?

PS good job too!

I have checked and they are no deeper than the heat seater and 2nd/pwr switch so should be fine, worst case I don't use the mounting blocks and have to put the terminal ends straight onto the switch rather than use the mounting block.

Is that base piece easy to remove from the console? I'd like to get mine Carbon wrapped, but just the inner silver piece. Im unsure if it can be separated from the the faux wood bit???

As you can see from the height control switch that was in place that the carling switches are shorter in length and that with the mounting base on

It all comes up as one piece and you unbolt the cup holder once out.

Little update. I started on the alloys and wanted to show you how easy it is as a DIY job. The road salt really takes its toll on alloys in this country.

The tools for the job

Please wear glasses and a mask as there is plenty of brake dust flying around.

First remove the weights with a screw driver. They are only "hooked" on and pop right off.

I plan on having them re balanced or using balancing beads ( http://www.dynabeads.co.uk/) instead of weights.

Next go to work with the knotted wheel on the grinder. Please remember the knotted wheel is much "harder" that the aluminium alloy so let the grinder do the work and go sparingly with pressure otherwise you will remove more than just the caked on brake dust and dirt.

The dark patches you see on the alloy is the grinder pattern coming from a different angle and not dirt left on the wheel. It took me about 10min to do the wheel and that was stopping to take the pictures.

Next you need to go to work on the front and the indentations at the back of the wheel with a drill and wire wheel selection.

I will post the rest tomorrow now that 95% of the work has been done.

I have done 2 already and am driving a 50/50 car.

youre giving me ideas i like the look whats the ride like

Warren, Black wheels on a Silver car just don't look right......Now if your car was a dark blue or black, that would be a different matter. In your case, the cuffs and collars don't match. Alas I love the rest of the build. John

Cheers for the comment John :icon-biggrin: Im not overly sold on Black either to be honest BUT with the original ARB powder coating being so bad (as soft as cheese) I plan on having them re-done at some stage in Black so they would match then. That aside having done the wheels once it would be very easy to do them again and change the colour if I wanted back to silver.

I agree with John about the black wheels just not "looking right" on your silver car.

I also painted a spare set of alloys that I had, and put them on my silver 120.
They were on for about a month, then off.
It looked too aggressive.
How about going back to silver alloys, and colour coded front and rear bumpers?
just a thought?

Gra.

Black on silver looks good if you balance it out with blacked out rear windows me thinks

Build

Can someone tell me the legalities of fitting a Bull Bar? Thought they were banned from cars after a certain reg year?

Nice car Warren - maybe try Gunmetal on the alloys?

Thanks

Chris
