Warrens new 100 build

All is good and well if you fit it along with a winch as it then becomes a "tool" rather than just an accessory.

Admittedly I have not yet fitted my winch but it is in the shed ready to go on as I am just waiting for wiring to arrive. That being said when I spoke to my insurance company I made it clear that I had a front bullbar with no winch and they where still very happy to insure me.

It also sailed through its MOT with no winch and have countless coppers drive past with not so much as a glance.

Well I said I would update as the alloy spraying went on so here goes.

Once I have given the wheels a good going over with the help from the grinder and wire wheel along with a drill and a selection of small wire wheels you end up with this.

Once the rear is done you then need to go to work on the front

Once all is done and you have given it a good clean to remove all dust and oil its time to prep for spraying. Let out all the air in the tyre and you can then use card or tape to mark off and stop over spray.

I found a box of business cards did the job.

Then its time to spray with some etch primer, nice and slow and about 3 coats on each side did the trick.

After one coat

And the centre cap just got a light sand and then the same treatment

More to follow once I have sprayed them in Black.

Wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the next installment, with more great pics - this is what i ought to do as well - thanks.

Did you use some kind of degreaser after wire-brushing?

Yes I used brake fluid cleaner on a cloth as it evaporates away very fast

Well I finally managed to do some work on the cruiser today in preparation for the road trip to Italy.

I managed to get the AC tested and as i thought it has a number of leaks in the line going to the rear so out it came in bits and pieces and i will post the two ends off to get a single flex line made up.

Thanks to Marius who gave me the idea for installing a fridge as the center console.

The fridge is a Waeco CDF-11 for those that are interested.

After stripping out the center console you left with this

Then removing the base plate and a few other small bits you end up with this.

A bit of 10mm ply, some contact and some rubber mat and i ended up with a base plate

The base plate bolt into place like this

Prior to bolting it in i thought i would show you how it fits the fridge and the strap to hold it in place.

It fits very nicely and even looks a bit OEM if i say so myself

For the mean time its just plugged into one of the cig lighter sockets until i work out how best to power it long term off an aux battery.

It does have an auto cut out if it senses your battery is low and they are pre set too either 10.1 or 11.4 or 11.8 and then it auto starts once it senses a charge.

I let it run with the car idling for 45min set to -18 with an ambient of 28 and the water i put inside was ice cold and much longer would have froze.

Im very happy and will report back after the trip on how it behaved.

That looks great Warren.

Nice work.

Very nice install - as you say, it does look OEM (helps that your fridge matches your interior trim).

Warren

If I didn't know better I'd had thought that your car had come straight out of the factory with a fridge as a centre console. Your retrofit is a very clean and professional installation and YOU should be very proud of yourself.

There is a significant difference between the old and new gearbox - and its not just the number of gears. This is one of the reasons Toyota changed, 'cos of the 'clunkiness' of the old box which could often change with a real thud.

Newbie here.
I have to say that although the whole bumpers and general off road stuff doesn't float my boat personally (don't shoot me!!) that switch pack install, and the fridge, look absolutely stunning. Well done to you sir.

Hi Warren,
I have just bought a 100 series, having sold my disappointing S200. Can I ask where you bought your ARB kit from?

The roller blind type cover for the boot area! Do you intend keeping it or will it require a new home? As I am currently looking for one!!!

I'm deffo going to do that fridge centre console conversion to my South African project when I eventually lay my hands on a LC100 oil burner.......Warren's excellent example has shown me the light.

John

Hmm, I wonder if those triple washer jets would fit an 80 series bonnet?!

Also, did those LED reversing lights make much difference?
