Departure date; provisional, 28 Dec 2006, arrive timbuktu on the 10 jan, 3
days in Essekane, the oasis settlement where the festival is taking place,
than back to algeria for a stab in the dunes and amongst the jabal adrar n
ahnet - l'beast may stay at home, simply because now its a payoff between
paying for the trip (about 2,500 euro without l'beast 3,000 euros with it)
and the cost of the gearbox 1,800GBpounds, since I can't do both - shame
really.
However, I do have at my disposal at least 2 x 80s based in In Salah, or for
my purposes, ready for me at Oran Port in algeria since this is where we're
starting from. I'll be driving one of them if ma beast doesn't come with
me.
Now because of a debt remained unpaid (to me) for bailing a 'mate' out
(who's a sponger actually, and never really a mate) I can't afford the
trip - so am taking this 'mate' to the small claims court here in Bristol -
am quit being the nice person that everybody knows me as - its time to get
even with him. I deserve better than this.
So, don't be jealous - I did think though that your home responsibilites
would get in the way of you coming with me, but I still had hope. ATEOTD,
I'm going anyway; I'll wangle it for me somehow...I usually do.
And there is always later in 2007 and 2008 since ma web site will be up and
running soon - the present delay is because I have to 'register' (i.e. a
bank thing) the company before the bank will give me access to some of their
services, like for instance, a trading bank account, or holding account so
when people pay for the trips I'm running, their money is secured, so it can
be used for the tours. The usual kind of stuff the banks ask of us here in
the UK. All gobbledegook for people not in the know.
I think the UK most be the worlds WORST country for bureaucratic red tape!!
Legal jargon, and insurance (public liability, and stuff like insurance
against terrorist acts, hi-jacks, armed robbery, etc., etc) are pages
long...and this is just a very small percentage of stuff that needs to be
done in regards to being self-employed.
If I take cash-in-hand it has its advantages, but I'll be had by the tax
people! so I can't win.
Hey ho! roll on 2007...

Re Morocco Trip
Still Jealous.
Even more so of Chris Scott who's trundling accross the Empty Quater
next month. The last time that was done was in the 70's by The British
Army in Landrovers.
Fuel capacity for the LC's on Chris's trip is in the region of
450Ltrs!!
I'd say that will be some craic!
Dream dream

Re my Algerian/Mali trip - its 8,000 kms roundtrip....so, I guess that
equates with an awful lot of dosh for that really good (aka excellent)
diesel we get in algeria...
Why are you still jealous? You can still come? Would you bring your beast?
knowing my luck I'll have to fly out to Algiers (aargh! let me out of here!
I'm not a celebrity..!) as I don't 'do' Algiers...
There is still time....if you don't bring the 4x4 join me in algiers and
we'll catch the next internal flight to timbuktu - then I have another
vehicle that will be available for me, lent to me by a rather nice lady
called Natascha who runs a Mali agency, she knows me well, and is happy to
lend me an agency vehicle, its yes, another 80 series but a 1996 or 1997
model...seriously, would you be interested? two weeks tops, so won't damage
your leave situation if you are working (that's unless you've already taken
your leave...) anyway, I thought you were joining some others in Mauretania?
ONLY 450ltrs? how about 450 ltrs x 8! just kidding - I can't remember the
exact costings (I'm not very organised...) but its in the region of this,
I'm sure (yes, I know I should rush and get the costings sheet from my mess
of paperwork...).
Cheers

Main reason I'm not travelling is cos it's in the middle of the
shooting season. Have spent 2 years training a mutt twice a day and am
hopefully going to reap the rewards this season.
+ I still have to get the beast's BEB's done! - Shush! don't say that
too loud in case you break the taboo
Cheers

the beast's *** what?! moi? never! (usher 'that' word in da company of
offroaders...
Yeah! go for it! live on the edge!
When I was a kid I used to help my grandfather 'gather the pheasant (and
grouse)', sometimes we had dogs, other times we used ourselves. We used a
shooting lodge for temp accommodation.
I can't remember which one of my relatives taught me how to defeather a bird
or skin a rabbit.
cheers
