Waypoint Tours Morocco trip

Hi All,
I have just returned from an eventful trip to Morocco, eventful in more ways
than one, I booked with Waypoint Tours http://waypointtours.com/index.htm
early this year (especially as the tour was fully catered and I hate
cooking) after hearing some good things about them, I can confirm that South
African Barrie Dunbar is a no nonsense man who knows his stuff (and he's a
great cook).
I started out not knowing a great deal about Barrie, but before the end of
the tour I felt I had made a couple of very good friends with Barrie and his
co-driver Max, they went out of their way to look after me, as did the rest
of the group (I freely admit I am a bit high maintenance, as Max so
delicately put it)
I managed to fall over on ice in the Atlas mountains and landed on the base
of my spine, which was quite painful, I hit a rock with the nearside front
wheel which wrenched the steering from my hands and the steering knob spun
round and gave me a nasty cut on my arm which Barrie took care of, he used
to be a medic in the army.
In the desert I managed to drive over a sand dune that had an unseen drop of
about 10ft on the far side into which the Landcruiser plunged throwing me
into the windscreen and smashing it, but thankfully I've got a hard head,
mind you my neck muscles are still aching, I know, I know, I should have
been wearing my seatbelt.
The Cruiser survived very well the only damage as far as I can see is that
the winch bumper has been pushed back a slight amount, the front diff-guard
has been a bit distorted and the rear spare wheel carrier swivel mount
broke! I am well aware I was extremely lucky, things could have been much
more serious, but I can only repeat I was in good hands with Barrie and Max
who took very good care of me,
I can thoroughly recommend Waypoint Tours, Barrie Dunbar is a no nonsense
man who quite rightly told me off a few times, but I would confidently
follow him anywhere, I plan to do another trip with him to Portugal next
year when he has got it set up, Finally on my way back through France the
front off-side wheel bearing overheated and seized and another wheel fell
off!

Wow Man!
A long list of CoD (Category of Defects...; ach my VOSA days....)
Chas how the h**l did you cope with the broken windscreen? I guess you just
knocked it out so you could see clearly out of it? You're very lucky Chas
not to have sustained serious physical damage - that on top of a very sore
back - not a good combination!
I narrowly missed going over once when I slipped down a dune sideways -
quick thinking on my part, or, maybe I was just lucky, no damage to the
beast, but it wasn't serious in my case, and I laughed it off afterwards.
This is why I have a toyo landcruiser....
And this is also why a good guide/drivers are a godsend, aren't they?
Cor blimey, you guys do put yourselves through it don't you? Must be a
bloke thing...
Regards
Renate
