Hi all - 1st post here, hope the collective wisdom can offer some advice.

I am planning an overland build of a dual cab landcruiser. The concept is for a deployable camping setup on the tray, allowing for the camp setup to be easily taken off the tray and the vehicle to be used for daytrips from the campsite.

I am going to custom build the setup, after having a good look at alternatives that are on the market.

Weight is a major concern, I want to keep as much forward and low as possible.

Heavy items that will be attached to the cruiser: Aux fuel tank, 2xspare tyres.
Heavy items that will be attached to the camping setup: 100+L water, Batteries, camping fuel. I can design the camping setup to mount these forward and low.

Where would you advise placing the spares and fuel? Ideally this would be somewhere between the axles and as low as possible. I want to avoid having to mount the wheels behind the cab and compromise tray space.

I have not yet bought the vehicle - and am struggling to find good technical drawings of the vehicle online.

Thanks!

Hey!

Just saw this & the lack of reply!

As U look for a "drive off" unit I recon the Aussie "Trayon" will come close to this.

I drove the following this year in SouthAfrica & Botswana

I was actually present when these exact pictures of the 79 where taken in February `15 in Botswana too
CapeTownian based AluCab are the builders

The one displayed on their HP is different to the AVIS Trucks.
I did abt 14 days in the "Ossawa" LC79 & quite a few kilometers.
I`d be happy to share my thoughs if You are interested or more of my own pictures for that matter.
I am certain one could convert the Ossawa camper into becomming a drive off unit too.
Much as this

Then there is the more "simple solution which also is not a drive off.

If You want to go "all in" then You look at this

As far as spare wheel goes; Either on top or on a swing away bumper solution.
Fuel & water always as low & far forward as possible.
The DC79 does not allow for much "play" under the Cab...
