whirring noise

Hi Guys
I think I have a problem that is waiting to bite me in the ass for loads of cash or maybe even a breakdown or both with my luck.
I have a whirring noise coming from just under the steering fluid filler as far as I can tell.
Its there every morning and it sounds like the sound you have if your steering fluid is low but louder.
The steering is quite heavy for a minute but then fine first thing in the morning.
There is fluid in the resovoire that can be seen on the dip stick.
I have had a leak in the steering box now for about 7 years and just top up with the thicker stop leak fluid and all is fine.
I just wonder if there is something going to happen.
thanks

John,
The only suggestion that I can come up with is that your fluid is
aerated and you can hear the air running through the system. Try
draining the fluid and replacing it.

Hi John,
It sounds like the noise could wel be coming from the power steering
pump which is down below it's resevoir.
What is this stop leak fluid that you are putting in there and how much
have you put in? These stop leak products are designed to be put in
once to stop the leak - if you are continually putting it in and the
leak hasn't stopped the chances are you may be at a point where you
have more stop leak in there than actual hydraulic fluid.
As Clive has suggested should try to get it drained out and get some
fresh hydraulic fluid in there and accept that until the leak is fixed
properly you will have to keep on topping it up.

John.
It's air in the fluid. If you run down the fluid too much you should bleed it when you top it up. To bleed it, start the engine and then turn the steering full lock to full lock 4 or 5 times. If you get someone to do this for you you can sometimes see the air bubbles rising.
Mine did this for a while. In the end I changed the seals in the steering pump. Got the seal kit in from Aus and took around 1 1/2 hours to do it. Pretty easy apart from getting the pulley off the front.
Cheers
