I have been on the search for the oldest known to survive FJ40. Not the oldest LC but the oldest 40 series. After searching archives and other Toyota Forums I have found that the first year land cruiser built the FJ40 model was in 1961. The early 1961 fj40 had a FJ25 style tub while later models had the more traditional FJ40 style tub (Squared front doors instead of the rolling fj25 style to name a few distictions).
There were less than 300 shipped to the U.S. and from what I have found less than 40 are known to have survived.
I currently own what is believed to be not only the oldest FJ40 but also the oldest unmolested FJ40.
If anyone has any further information on this topic I look forward to your comments.
I will post photos of my cruiser in the coming weeks. For now this is the only photo I could find which is a tiny sneak peak (It is the cruiser to the left of the 72' tub)...
Bone stock with original 1962 black and yellow CA lic plates
Vin: FJ4010121
