Have a chat with this bloke, he's making me a winch bumper and a rear bumper
incorporating a spare wheel carrier for less than the cost (?485) of a
replacement new front bumper from Toyota, he's a bit slow at the moment
until he gives up his teaching job and starts manufacturing full time. He is
also going to knock up some rock sliders for me.

I haven't got a price yet, but going by the bumper price it won't be
breaking the bank. I am seeing him at the week-end for a 'fitting' I'll let
you know next week.

Hi Guys,
I am after an update, how did the fabrication on your new parts go? I am
asking because I am looking for a spare wheel carrier and the prices you
have indicated are very good compared to the alternatives.
Thanks

Hi Ian,
If you go to
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....80017311050&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1
This is the winch bumper he made for me, he used a picture of my bumper for
the add, I haven't had it fitted yet (because of health problems I am not
allowed to drive at the moment) and can't get down to Chatham for a while.
The spare wheel carrier he made is a very neat design, I'll try to describe
it, if you imagine a U section girder across the back of the existing rear
bumper with the 'open' side facing back then a slightly smaller U section
girder inside the bigger one but facing forward and a sturdy upright to
mount the spare wheel on, and hinged at one end with a drop in pin at the
other end to lock it in position, this will swing to one side to allow
access to open the rear door. It really does look very neat and tidy. I
haven't actually paid for them yet (he wouldn't take any money apart from a
?50 deposit to start with) but the price now seems to be ?250, I am assuming
the deposit is not included in that. He is also fitting a jerry can holder
on the back and a tow ball on the front and will also be fitting my winch.
