    Where is the diesel pre-filter?

Thanks Frank / Andy - looks like I'm adding a filter funnel to my kit list :)

    Where is the diesel pre-filter?

Does any one have experience with the Mr Funnel filter? I've got a standard fuel filter for a UK spec 80 and have only just been looking into upper the filtering after hearing a couple of horror stories. It hadn't occurred to me to look into pre-filtering at the pump with regards to my trip.

Looking for a reliable dashboard compass - any suggestions?

That's what I was thinking. Have decided to go for the Silva 70UN, attachable but removable for storage & use away from the vehicle.

Looking for a reliable dashboard compass - any suggestions?

Thanks guys. I had been considering either the http://www.altimeters.net/altdashboardpkengl.htm or the http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/13309-01-Jeep-Clinometer-Tilt-Indicator-With-Compass-Jeep-Wrangler-CJ-YJ-TJ-JK-/261529760588 Will look at the Richie vs the Silva 70UN.

Looking for a reliable dashboard compass - any suggestions?

Have been trying to find a good non-digital compass to mount on my dash but only seem to be able to find super cheap plastic ones that I can't quite bring myself to any faith in or relatively expensive marine ones (£60+). Does anyone have any recommendations of where to look?

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

Both aerial and starter fixed! Win! My total faith in Julian paid off :)

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

Had a bit of a disaster on the cruiser yesterday. Whilst trying to fit the new electric aerial inside the passenger-side wing I managed to knock two of the wires for the starter motor out of their sockets (stupid that something so vital was so easy to dislodge!). The wirings been reconnected...

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

Beaconsfield. With any luck I won't still be here next friday. I'm hoping to be able to get away today, but with the way things are going that might require a small miracle...

Who is doing what maintenance today?

I'm back in the workshop today, trying to install a Ring AE916 electric aerial which is proving to be impossible as there are no installation instructions or guidelines anywhere! Anyone have experience fitting one of these?

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

Today felt like such a lucky day when it started. But after we ended up a man down, required several do overs on the exhaust connections due to stupid mistakes and I lost a screw for the stereo frame whilst fitting it back on, I'm not so sure... The screw wouldn't have been an issue really had...

Dash Panel Removal on Later Models

I removed the surround from my 1995 for the first time the other day; was actually pretty straight forward. As Gary said: remove the little receptacle above the radio - there are two little clips on the top underside of the receptacle that need gently pulling down whilst you tease the...

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

Absolutely shattered after a day entirely devoted to getting the new clutch installed, refitting the gear box and changing out the middle exhaust section. May not sound like much but my poor core is definitely not used to the work out it’s getting as I work on the undercarriage! There had...

    Jambo from Watamu!

Hi Casper, welcome to the forum! What prompted the change over to the LC? I mean, other than that it's a far more superior vehicle of course :icon-biggrin:

    CapeTown2Calcutta - 2015

It's been a loooooong time coming, but after five years of talking about it, two years of researching it and about a year of actual planning it, I've finally managed to find the "right" Land Cruiser and feel like I might actually be close to setting off on this epic adventure of mine...

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

Having spent the past two weeks working on the cruiser, the end is beginning to fee a little like a mirage... Delays in deliveries, new fault discoveries, wiring complications and long weekends have meant that things haven't progressed at the pace that I'd initially hoped and the projected ten...

Who is doing what maintenance today?

Week three rebuilding my TLC and am getting frustrated with stereo electronics. Wiring has been stripped of factory fixtures and is completely unlabelled so spent the morning hunting down wiring diagrams for the model I'm replacing, only to then realise that the replacement stereo I've bought...

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

Quick break from rebuilding the front axel to say that I'll do a full update of the work so far tonight. In the meantime Mike... I'm generally based between Marylebone & South Bucks when I'm not up here working on the Green Machine :)

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

Thanks for the advice Clive! Will have a look into suggestions. - most of the accidents people I know have had in their 4x4s have involved reversing into something they couldn't see, although to be fair parking sensors haven't always solved that problem... ;) - I'm a short'un and need to...

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

Slightly more remedial work than I'd hoped, but a lot less than it could have been... In addition to some general maintenance, tidying up, disk and all over fluid replacement, it looks like the near side front axle needs rebuilding, the rear exhaust mount needs replacing, there are some rust...

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

So it's been a month and I haven't made much progress on the new girl unfortunately. Gave a her a full check over with the help of the lovely Martin at Overland Cruisers, who've come up with a substantial list of remedial work required before I hit the road. Now I'm waiting for some space in...

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

As promised: Big Green minus her spots and before any of the work commences... Spent today with her up on jack stands whilst we checked over the breaks, barings, axles and I discovered just how heavy each of those tyres actually is!

Big Green: 80 Series overland build - or is it more of a kitting out?

So I've gone and done it, I've purchased my first land cruiser! A milestone if ever there was one! Now comes the fun bit: kitting her out for the cross African and Indian adventure I've been talking about for the past however many years and which I'm hoping to head off on in the next couple of...

Which insurer to use if planning to take LC outside of the EU within the year?

I'm just about to buy an LC for a cross Africa trip but need to get at least some UK & EU coverage for a few months before I go. This will be my first car insurance policy so wondering where the best place to start looking is. Should I go for a couple of months of temporary coverage, go for a...

    Wanted: 80 series Amazon

I've looked at a couple of LCs at Metro/Oakleigh (they're very close to me too). Nice vehicles, but expensive given the additional work I'd have to do. The silver one may actually be the one I looked at in the summer. Thanks for the advice re "ebay addicts" - will keep an eye on it.

Hi from a LC newbie in London

Not yet unfortunately :( Have been in and out of the country a lot over the past couple of months and keep seeming to miss them when they come up. Am back in one place for the moment though so if you see any good ones out there please shoot details my way.
