Hi All.
I have an LJ78 with a 3.0 1KZT swapped in. I also changed the auto box to a manual out of an LJ70. All working fine and completed a 3 month trip around Morocco with no issues. However I didn't change the diffs at the time. I knew that the gearing would be low as a result and lived with...
Hey guys, thanks for all the responses. The truck was found about 15 miles away, almost completely undamaged - the thieves just took a load of tools but nothing that can't be replaced so I'm properly chuffed to bits. I'm definitely getting a tracker and an immobiliser sorted out in the next few...
SUCCESS!!!
Our Land Cruiser has been found by the police!!! It was abandoned in Bath, about 15 miles away. It might be a few days before I can get her back because the police need to check for prints etc but apparently it is more or less undamaged. SO relieved.
Thanks to all who have shared my...
Thanks for all the messages guys, it means a lot. There have been a few possible sightings so I'm follow these up now and will keep you posted. There was a spate of similar thefts within days and several last night also in my town...
absolute scum.
Thanks mate, the springs are good, it just had a heavy trailer attached in that photo! Yeah I am properly gutted mate. I reckon it's organised crime as I've heard about many similar vehicles being stolen recently to break them or ship overseas....
Hi Shayne, yeah it is distinctive and maybe that will go in my favour. My fear is that it is either in a unit somewhere being broken for parts or it's in a container sitting in a ship yard somewhere waiting for a ride to Africa.... :( But it's worth trying to get her back. I spent years on it...
Hi Chas,
The suspension is fine, that photos was taken with a fully loaded trailer attached, probably not the best choice on reflection but at least you can see it clearly. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Ben
My dearly loved 1992 Toyota Land Cruiser KZJ78 reg no. K283 AFR was stolen from Frome, Somerset on the evening of Sunday 31/1/2016. Photos below.
Generous reward to anyone who has information that leads to the recovery of this truck. Needless to say I am gutted. It's silver and grey metallic...
Spoke to Paul at Westcoast Offroad last week and thank the lord he could fit in my engine conversion!.
We trailored the truck down to Southport yesterday and he will start work on her next week which gives me a bit of times to get the parts I need. So far Paul has been excellent...
Thanks Ben, that's useful to know :)
I spoke to my mate about the problems with the truck and he reckons it could be down to having recently fitted a new fuel filter that has caused an air lock to the injectors. So tomorrow we'll have a go at clearing each injector one by one and hopefully...
1kzt into an LJ78 and manual transfer Saga...
Ok.. so latest in the saga...
I emailed Paul from Westcoast Offorad. He was brilliant and gave me defintive answers to putting a 1kzt into an LJ78. I said ideally I wanted to do a manual transfer but said I would also keep my auto and mate it to...
Jim,
This is great info - thanks, especially as you have been to Morocco in a 78! I think I'll give Paul at Westcoast a call tomorrow and see how busy is and what the costs would be to put the kzt engine in. But I expect I'll be heading off with the 2LTE but feel much more confident about it. I...
Hi guys,
Thanks for the suggestions and ideas, it's very helpful. I've decided that given the tight deadline and uncertainties about compatibility, I'm going to stick with the 2.4 for the trip. Of course I'll do a full service and look into pete's suggestions of water wetter etc.
As I...
Ben - thanks for looking! Sounds like I need to either keep the engine I have for now... or go the full hog and change the box to a manual.
Pete - the 2.4 works fine, but I'll be heading to the Atlas mountains, and 2LTE and mountains is not a marriage made in heaven! But yes, it is a bit tight...
Hi Ben,
Thanks for your reply (and sorry for not replying to your last email a few months back - I didn't actually see it till just now! Have changed the notification settings so I should get emailed now!)
The chassis number is LJ78G-PET. I tried cross referencing the part numbers on toyodiy...
Hi guys,
Right so after having sourced a 4runner with a decent 1KZT engine back in June, I have finally gotten around to starting the job of putting this engine into my LJ78. However, I am concerned that I will have problems with mating the 3l engine to my auto tranny. Namely...
1. will the...
Hi Crushers,
Been trawling the net trying to find info on converting my LJ78 to manual. I saw this post and checked out mud as you suggested but no joy. Possibly I'm being lame but anything you can suggest to help me find it?
Thanks,
Ben
