I've found myself on the wrong side of the odds many a time because i'm not one of them .

Been using that story for over 10 years to explain to managers why people do the things they do. Used in context it's very powerful and a bit of fun in the telling. What's missing is the bit where they turned off the water before the first new monkey was introduced.
