I think I've got the same problem. Was the break on the engine bay side or on the inside of the car? If you have any photos of the area - that would be so great! I have been struggling to find this issue for about 6 months now, with much frustration.

I'm having very similar issues with my gearbox also. Is it ok to shift gear leaver to position "3" while moving? And then back into "D"? I would hate to do any damage to the gearbox...

Hi guys, I have just bought my self a 1992 LC 80 4.2TD with 280k km on the clock and can't say enough how happy I am with that car. The only issue (or what seems as an issue to me) is the gearbox shift too early from 3rd into 4th, which is causing some performance issues around 65-80km/h range...
