I've got a 3ltr, it's fairly quiet and smooth and has a flat(ish) power curve. The 2.5 is a good motor but a wee bit noiser and has a narrower power band so you have to use the gearbox a lot more.

Here's the donor Land Rover. I had been looking for something a bit newer, TD5 Defender or later, but this came up for £100. I've gathered most of what i need to make a start so hope to get going over the next few weeks.

But, you are left with an LC on blocks for a few days while your exchange wheels are delivered. I think i paid £250 inc postage each way, maybe £200 but i can't remember.
