Hello all

my bonnet cable seems like its frayed, its still working at the moment but if i lift the bonnet i have to flick the lever a few times to get it to settle back in position. it doesn't feel smooth in action. I have tried lube down the cable both ends and ive made sure the catch isn't dry/seized so it needs a new cable before i get locked out of the engine bay.

I have looked on toyo diy/google etc but cant find a part number for it does anyone know the number?

Thanks SAG i looked on toyo, didnt even get this to come up. At least i can work with some part numbers now:thumbup:

If the outer is OK, you might have some luck just replacing the inner with some new stainless steel, nylon coated cable, which when I did it to a different vehicle, I got from our local push bike/cycle shop for next to nothing... They also had solderless nipples in various sizes....

Harder than just fitting a new part, but well worth it IMHO, as, being SS, I doubt it will need doing again...

Be interested to see wahat Simon quotes you Joe as our cable is very stiff & wont release immediate once the bonnet has been opened

Hi Gav I PMd you.

My new bonnet cable should be with me on wed/thursday.

the part number above is correct. so if you need a new bonnet cable use 53630-60050.

Thanks Joe, will check it out tomorrow on my laptop as tappytalk not being too helpful. Is that the whole assembly with outer cable supplied?

I asked simon the same question as it reads the whole assembly. It is just the cable not the catch.

My bonnet catch was doing something similar. The problem was in the catch mechanism under the bonnet - it was all gummed up with crud. I cleaned it out with brake cleaner and compressed air (crap went flying everywhere), then applied a liberal amount of WD40 and it's been fine since.

yeah ive already done this and made sure its all moving freely, on my lc when you pull the bonnet release you can feel the cable is rough in action.

Well, i finally found an hour to swap this over today. its a simple swap.

1. undo the cable from the plastic lever near to steering wheel.
2. open bonnet and pull the cable back through the rubber boot
3.work the cable out cutting some plastic ties along the way.
4. take out front grill
5. undo two 10mm bolts on the bonnet catch.
6. the third bolt on the bonnet catch is underneath a plastic cap again its 10mm
7. fiddle out the bonnet catch and take out the bonnet cable.( i also took the oppurtinity to degrease the bonnet catch properly and re grease the moving parts.
Refit in reverse order cable tying where needed.

Once the cable was out i could feel it was tight inside of the outer casing so i cut the end off and pulled the cable through, but could not fins any fraying. what i could see though was the end of the outer casing where it sits under the bonnet had a metal end, this had corroded and as usual with rust swollen slightly so this was pinching on the cable and making it tight. so yes a god job jobbed:thumbup:
