Blown Rad

had a rad blow out on me and bent my bonnet, going up the A1 about 80.

new rad and the engines good it was a blocked thermostat.
 
Crikey! Never seen or heard of such a thing. I thought stats were meant to fail open. Perhaps an after market cheapie?
 
Makes me feel happy that I've just replaced my rad!

I've got a tidy red bonnet here if you need a straight one? :tonguewink:

Has anyone tried one of the alloy rads you can find on E Blag ? seems to be 3 or 4 row ones and for £200 seem good value if any good . OE are way more than that and Milners ones from my experience are not very durable

There is a pressure relief valve on the rad to stop this happening. If this was blocked a pressure failure would be hydraulic with no volume expansion and you would just see steam.

I've had burst rads before. They don't do physical damage.

Another wind up story as per loose valve colets in 80 engine.
