I have a ride on Toro mower 8-25. It is lead acid battery start so presumably has a charging system This has failed as there is only 12.7 volts with flat battery and high revs. Does anyone know if there is a small alternator somewhere? Thanks.

There's often a coil either up under the flywheel or incorporated with or next to the coil up under the cowl. What engine does it have? Have a check from the battery and look for an extra wire, usually thinner that goes off to the engine somewhere other than the starter.

Thanks folks. Due to my poor BB connection I cant access info on the net but I can connect to this site OK. It's a Briggs and Stratton motor and I think there must be a coil supplying AC and then a regulator to supply 14 or so VDC, I'll look tomorrow.

Just had a quick look, can't be sure it's the right one without the serial number, but it looks like it has got an alternator, it's number 887 on the diagram (in the middle).

That's the one ! I suspect the problem is 877 Diode Assy. I would think the alternator coil is quite robust and reliable but I'll run the engine and check AC volts from it first. THANKS.

My thoughts entirely, that or a broken wire/connection.
