Six years ago a young cat wondered into our house & it's been with us ever since, we found out someone moved & just left it to fend for its self, anyway Tuesday of this week it started being sick by Wednesday we thought it was dying, off to the vet & a couple of injections & if no improvement by lunchtime Thursday bring her back oh & that's £141, Thursday afternoon she went back & has been there until this evening, she's a bit better but still very flat & I'm a further £ 650 out of pocket

And when she's better, you'll not give the cost another thought…

You may consider pet insurance though…

As an ex cat & dog owner I can sympathise with you there JM. If I was starting my career again I'd be a vet or a lawyer! We 'adopted' a cat, in similar circumstances to yourself, back in 1986. Going to work one morning, several inches of snow on the ground and a very young black cat appeared on the doorstep. Gave her a bowl of warm bread and milk (didn't know much about cats then) and she lived with us for the next 18 years. Never had her to the vet until around 18 months before she died and she developed health problems related to old age. My Collie also had numerous visits to the vet which became more frequent when she past 14 years old. Finally had to have her euthanised 4 months short of her 16th birthday, a day I'll never forget but I wish I could. No idea what the total cost was over the years but it's not something that ever crossed my mind.

My bro was so pissed off by the scale of vets bills, he took out insurance for his dog. It's crazy in the U.K. now, but it was never like that years ago.

Our cat is getting old and coming up to last Christmas, she lost 2/3 her body weight in a month.

We thought she was a gonner, but took her to the vet. He kept her for a week, did umpteen tests on her, all of which showed nothing amiss.

Anyway, he put her on a strict diabetic diet, and lo and behold, she started gaining weight. He kept her another week for observations, and when she really showed a vast improvement, we had her home.

Total cost was 400 lei, which is just under €100 ... and that included her food for the fortnight!

We went through a spate of people dumping unwanted cats at the farm. They invariably ended up in our yard. We had six in the house and six feral cats living outside. It was the food bills that bugged me!

We must have had 18 cats over the years, along with Guinea Pigs, rabbits, hamsters and . . . HORSES :angry-screaming:.

You think you've got problems with Vets' bills for dogs and cats . . . . PAH !

We still have a 28-year-old horse that I bought as a six year old when the girls were 14 & 13. He is on constant medication and is too old to be ridden by anyone but my six year old Grandson. He is, of course, MINE.

What do you do, they are all part of the family and life revolves around them. We just acquired two ginger kittens from 'Border Pet Rescue'. They are 10 weeks old and already racking up Vets' bills .

Bob.

We've been adopted by a cross-eyed cat, he spends all weekend with us at the w/e house and doesn't stop eating 24/7...

Now we've been adopted by a bloody dog up there too :icon-rolleyes:

I've told my daughter "no" in no uncertain terms, taking it back to the city and keeping a dog in an apartment in Bucharest is no joke when we're all out at work/school all day.

So she's bought it a collar and lead, to take it walks at the weekends.

Today was the first walk, this is Bella taking my daughter Ana for a walk... in the rain...
