1978 FJ40 Oil bath Air filter

Folks,
Opened up the air filter and this was a surprise, I thought they were always paper.

Anyone got some guidance on cleaning it?

Advice i got was wash it in petrol or flame off the oil residue with blow torch, didn't like the idea of either so got myself a new one.

Cheers, will have a look at how much they cost, or get the flame thrower out!!

So I got 20 litres of Kerosene and used 5 litres at a time in a bucket. I washed it out, the Kerosene was black each time, hopefully won't have to do it for a few years. Also, put engine oil in the bottom of the air filter housing up to the line, strange system!!!
