Could be a bad earth on the system caused a draw to be looking for another earth path and somehow it found it through the dash.... earths cause more problems than many realise and lead many up the "garden path" looking for faults.......

Fitted an X Force to my 80 1HD FT at the weekend ..... It fit's pretty well and everything lines up....I like the fact it retains the original Toyota rubber isolation blocks ..... the supplied M8 bolts are a bit long and need M8 washers so if you plan on fitting one get some before fitting...

I reckon there is a relay somewhere..... The horn button supplies an earth path for the coil on the horn relay..... and power comes from the horn fuse straight to the horn... on the factory diagram but you're well capable of sussing that so I wonder if a multi plug somewhere has had corrosion...

Dynamically the RR is superior .... it goes better , stops better and handles better.... look at the massive 6 pot calipers and brakes on the RR and it's all independent suspension over a live rear axle on a 200..... but and it's a massive BUT..... The 200 is superior in every way when it comes...

Any diesel pump specialist that I know of will just strip check and rebuild a pump replacing any worn parts then run it on the bench to confirm it is to spec .... so in affect a "service" is a full rebuild

Before you buy a solenoid the error also refers to the circuit to the solenoid.... check the multi plugs and wires....it may be a simple fix

T into return will only work when the engine is running though ? I agree they use little fuel. Is the OP planning on using it as a night heater when camping ?

I would always install a dedicated fuel pick up.... for several reasons.... 1 , you don't want the possibility of the heater allowing air ingress and stopping the engine or causing running issues 2 , you don't want your heater to be able to drain your tank so in the morning you have no fuel...

Pretty sure the head will be cracked....certainly not the first one that has...... Roughtrax did or still possibly do a better made aftermarket head that's a simple swap over job

I did have some new original 100series ones..... obviously only rears.... they would be pretty similar to OE 80 ones.... let me have a root about in the sheds and see if I have a pair left...

The 5.9 is a great little engine but weighs loads.... and only revs to 2800 or so rpm unless you play around with the pump.... A good engine for conversions of thirsty big old petrol's but if you spent similar money on your 1hdt or 1hdft you could have 250 + hp and keep everything else original...

Maybe one of the valves in the box is sticky ? If it sat for 5 months possible a little bit of corrosion happened or even a bit of dirt got in when the rad was changed and is causing a valve to stick ?

If you were using Russian internet then many Western sites are blocked..... wouldn't do for people to be able to search for the true version of events themselves....

"Deeper steel wheels" ? Do you mean wheels with more negative offset or wider rims than you have ? Are you on standard wheels and 275 /70/16 tyres ?

Technically clever and a lot of work and I do like the idea of the V8 swap for the power and noise but..... An 80 body is stronger , nicer and quieter too sit in .... a lot of work for less comfort and space . The 80's with a 60 face swap do look good though

While I know a few Westernised Russians and they are decent enough even their default setting is slightly strange ..... There are upgraded servos available...... not cheap though and I've not spoken with anyone who has fitted one yet as a comparison . Is the vacuum pump working correctly ? if that's not pulling enough then the servo also wouldn't be working correctly

Check or replace the flexible brake lines on the rear axle.... they can collapse internally and restrict brake force . Often overlooked when a vehicle pulls to one side under braking .

Also it's not unknown for both bulbs to fail within a short while of each other....

Not a timing issue .... the timing belt light is tripped by the odometer.... I would go with an earth issue seeing as that's probably the only common thing between both warning lights

A good engine in a tractor or light truck..... how's the gearing going to work out when 2800 rpm is about max for a 6BT and a 1HDT revs to over 4000 .... Are you changing diffs or ratios anywhere ? A great project and a fair job.....be interesting to follow progress

Seeing as the Ingenium engine is getting a reputation as the "explodium" engine I think maybe best steer clear..... JLR had so much fun with the PSA derived V6 and it's ability to keep whole dealerships mechanics busy they decided to continue the theme with this engine and it's elastic timing...

The Toyota one for £500 won't be OEM quality.... they stopped 120's long enough ago that they now just supply an aftermarket version in all likelihood... Go with Roughtrax and give it a good coat or two of zinc paint before you fit it

Honda are by far the best....... I have several shooting estates as customers and they have all tried other makes and gone back to Honda..... Can-Am are not bad and a nearby dealer takes a lot of beating.... it will be cheaper to start with than a Honda.... I wouldn't rule one out .

To be fair the Defender isn't really in the same class for reliability.... the 4 cylinders are beginning to pop engines... the 6 cylinder seems to have fewer issues but both suffer from electrical PMT . I think it's only the perceived Toyota Landcruiser reliability that keeps 200 values high...

They claim "water repellant" .... Seeing as they are canvas you could probably treat them with a clear tent water proofer such as Fabsil.... I've tried various makes of "water proof" seat covers on my van .....they all move about on the seat and they all eventually loose the water proof...

Just about anything UK supplied will be a "universal" fit and not great quality.... Escape Gear are SA based and do perfect fitting model specific seat covers.... they take some beating IMHO ...

£80K is putting them in a price range where they aren't a work vehicle and other manufacturers have nicer interiors....the " Landcruiser " brand may be strong but the 250 is going to have to be very good to maintain sales once a few are out there.... and have an impeccable build quality...

Start it up and leave it running for a good while to warm up then if you have the room start it in first gear with the clutch pedal held down by a piece of wood and drive around and alternate braking and sudden acceleration..... if you're lucky it will suddenly release and stop driving ....at...

Can it not be welded ? I had a WW2 International RED450B cylinder head welded , crack tested and ceramic coated..... beautiful job you would never know . It had cracked between a valve seat .....

Unless like many you then change the lift or the ride height in the future.... Nothing wrong with good welding... it should be as strong as the material welded and you do have the question of who welded the adjustable suspension links ;-) I would buy only from a known good supplier or company .

Anything over 2.5 inches and it's worth adding adjustable panhard rods..... just to get the axles tracking exactly in the same wheel track....not so much on tarmac but in sand and loose surfaces it can give the same "floaty" feeling.... do you have the usual 70 series issue where the rear axle...

I'm not anti the old 3.5 or it's later bigger capacity brothers.... I had a Rover SDI with the twin plenum V8 that was an ex unmarked police car , I also had several V8 3.5 and 3.9 V8 Rangies .... and a TR7 V8 works spec rally car with a cross bolted all steel dry sumped 3.5 V8 on quad twin...

A few years ago Rover V8 in a Hilux was common....... The rover V8 is getting long in the tooth now and suffers from porous blocks I believe..... Turner Engineering in Sussex have a good reputation for machining and sorting the V8's .
