    1HD_FT Cooling pipes.

I have located a hose on the RHS of the engine low down at the front and going in to the block. I cannot see how the hose is attached to the block. I assume some sort of metal tube similar to the LHS heater pipe take off. Cannot see it in any parts diagram. Any help appreciated.

Thanks everyone. Getting a bit concerned over my 30 year old hoses. Some are a bit brittle! What about those heater hose steel tubes that knock into the sides of the block? Those look like fun.

    Don't mix antifreezes.

This is what happened to me when I did not disconnect/flush the heater matrixes on changing fluids. Fortunately its just in the expansion tank for some weird reason. Its crumbly plastic stuff. I wondered why I had flat main hoses in the mornings. It had blocked the contraction valve in the rad...

    Sorry! Another water thread.

Thanks both. I'm not worried about results of failure now I have my pressure gauge. It's just that I won't be able to do any work in say 3 years time so might get everything changed now. I have worn out my left shoulder straining on cars and motorbikes since age of 13 or so. Shoulder is...

    Sorry! Another water thread.

What temperature does the water run at in the block, being the hottest part of the system ? I am wondering if, in UK, we need a pressurised system for Sunday driving, or perhaps could fit a rad cap with a lower opening pressure? This would take pressure off 30 year old hoses. I've been toying...

    Cooling system pressure warning light.

Heater pipes would be OK but still have potential to leek if cut through, like any other pipe. I went for the block hose because I thought pressure might be more stable there.. Strangely when the light goes out during high engine revs it comes on again when changing to a higher gear. Pressure...

    Cooling system pressure warning light.

Yes the switch is adjustable 0-50 psi. It works really well. It is very solidly built. If it corrodes it will weep first rather than drop fluid. I cut the main hose up from the block which provides the heater circuit. The tee is a very tight push into the pipe and the thread fitting is a tight...

Correct coolant for 1HD-FT diesel engine 1995.

I fitted "OAT" antifreeze from Halfords years ago. Due for a change but when I look online Halfords warn me this type may not be suitable for my engine ? I can't see what they recommend for my engine. Thoughts welcome.

    Cooling system pressure warning light.

Managed to get the low pressure warning system finished. First I had to convert a brass T to take a 1/8 NPT threaded pressure switch. This T fitted into the heater pipe coming up from the block. The pressure switch was a "Longacre" 0-50 psi. I also bought a 20 mm LED warning light. I fitted...

Yes the top hose will drain down together with the bypass hose so both will be dry. There is a float in the Craig so it will trigger the switch if no water is present.

    Cooling system pressure warning light.

My Davies Craig warning kit came today. Trouble is it cuts down the cross section of the top hose by about 65%. Question is, under normal driving, will the thermostat open further to compensate or is it fully open when the engine is up to temperature? Very tempted to fit a bypass pipe to...

    Cooling system pressure warning light.

Been paranoid after ByronJ lost his cooling water (and engine). I've been thinking of what happens in the cooling system and how to fix a low pressure warning light. When the water is subject to heat from the engine it expands and reaches a pressure equal to the pressure spring in the rad cap...

    Power steering?

I assume your box is the type that when you turn the input shaft it will turn forever and the output shaft will turn forever? IE the pitman arm does not need to timed to the box. If so your solution should work.

    Cruise control fault.

Yesterday I went for a test after refitting the pedal switches. I noticed that the CC did work after moving the control switch down, then up to position the throttle. This would do which could be wired to a lamp or buzzer. The weak point would be the pipe joined to the water system but at least the alarm would go off if it failed. Contact Pressure Gauges - S.M. Gauge Company Ltd - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]

    Broken Engine

Pressure sensor with a warning buzzer would be good. Trouble is there is a partial vacuum in there when the engine is cold. Cut a large hole in the front of the bonnet and fit a large brass temperature gauge where a mascot would go. That's what they did back in the day when cars were built...

    Pressure washer.

I've been keeping my Romanian "Jetbox" going for the last 10 years by rebuilding every year or so! Now the plastic seals have worn out and the aluminium is corroded through. I paid £20 for it second hand. Time to step up properly.

    Broken Engine

Ha Ha. I used a sharp knife and hammered it round the joint with a lump hammer. Great minds think alike. Even then though I slightly bent the flange which leaked ever so slightly so had to do it all again.

Thanks. I came to the Kranzle solution yesterday. The K1050P is the cheapest one at £465 delivered. It will be used just for patio cleaning. What do you think Juddian? At the age of 78 my wife thinks i ought to buy one that will only last 2 years !! Thank you so much for a long reply.
