Diesel engines at altitude - 1HZ

I looked into getting one of these for my 1HZ - It seems you can't buy the altitude compensator separately and retro fit it, you need to buy a whole new fuel pump assembly (although I may be wrong) I know your struggles @Bmonck . Honestly I would say the best thing to do, especially because...

    Nothing's ever easy is it.......

Yeah, in hindsight I wish I had used the stickers on the front. The rear plate failed the MOT a few years ago so I brought a pair of EU compliant plates, and with the back one already on I figured I 'just' put the front one. The whole thing has been a bloody farce.

We're off to Spain and France this summer so I thought I would finally get around to changing the front numberplate to an EU compliant one. I'm currently 4 hours in and still going.......

    Winch costs

One thing to note with winches is to routinely check they still work - especially if you are installing a cheaper one that isn't IP rated. You don't want to find out it doesn't work when you are in a recovery situation. +1 for synthetic. Well worth the cost.

    105 intermittent wiper wiring

Awesome, thanks @Grimbo That sound like a plan. I'll get on it in the next few days and report back. I managed to get a digital copy of the FSM for the 105 ages ago, so I'll have a look in there

    105 intermittent wiper wiring

Thanks @Grimbo Yep it was what I was measuring. So..... if there is high resistance in the loom any thoughts on where I start looking?? I'll dig out the user manual and look for any relay locations, but is there anything else that could be faulty and replaceable??

    105 intermittent wiper wiring

Hi all, The intermittent wiper has never worked on the Landcruiser (since we got it anyway), and now that the lo and high are starting to get a bit sluggish I thought I would replace the wiper motor. However Ayamama just quoted me £300 - £200 for the part and £100 delivery. So before I order it...

Positions of inputs & load outputs along auto 12v wiring

Also worth noting that there are a number of products on the market that you can use to connect and control your battery inputs and outputs. Victron do a large range of such products but there are many others. They will have inputs for solar/ alternator and outputs for your inverter/ 12v...

    2001 105 1HZJ fuel light flashing

What year is your 105? A similar thing happened to my 105 - after months of investigations, and me pretty much pulling the whole car apart looking for blown fuses/ solenoids/ relays I managed to speak to someone at Toyota who said that there is a know fault in the original dash, which was...

Good Driving Practices. Do they really matter

If its a diesel then one good driving habit is to rag the shit out of it from time to time to clear everything out, or maybe this is an old wives tale from my childhood...... :p

    Ben’s 2004 HZJ105 STD Spec 1HZ Manual

From recollection it is indeed just under the oil filter, but my truck is having a Dynatol treatment done so I can't check until it comes back, but I can take some photos once it is back if you need them.

    Ben’s 2004 HZJ105 STD Spec 1HZ Manual

Glad you got the horn working. re. Oil pressure gauge - mine went too. It was the sender unit, Roughtrax sell Toyota ones (or at least they did), changed it and it's working fine again. Hopefully that one will be easier.

    Alternator gone?

From my understanding of the dark arts you can't really test modern batteries with just a multimeter because the need to be tested under load. I had an Odessey Battery that was testing 14.2V with the alternator on, 12.something V with alternator off but wouldn't start the truck. Got it onto a...

    Decision Time ⏳

WOW, what a vehicle. Beautiful done. If you have somewhere you can keep it indoors then put a trickle charger on it, and get someone to give it a run every once in a while and she'll start first time when you get back. Seems a shame to lose her. That said, can you spare some time to drive it...

    Norway drive

That's actually a very good point. If you can go backpacking then you'll probably find some of the best wilding camping in the world. We were there with a 2 and 4 year old, so it was a bit much at the time, but we'll definitely be going back to go back packing. Another point worth noting is the...

    Norway drive

We went to Norway before the likes of iOverlander and found it a lot harder to find really great wild camping spots than I had thought - although we were in a ground tent so that didn't help. With iOverlander you'll probably find it easier to find wild camp sites. There are loads of great...

Hi All, Not land Cruisers I know but anyway.... Anyone familiar with the Can-Am brand? Quad bikes/ UTV's etc What are they like? Are they comparable with say Honda quad bikes? Starting Issue / Stalling While Driving

Hi Sam, Let's start with the basics, the engine needs fuel, air and compression to fire. If its finding it difficult to get it going, and then suddenly loses power whilst running one of those is a good place to start. Fuel filter/ leak in fuel system/ fuel pump (check you still have a good...

    Retired my Toyota from overlanding

I can definitely see a time in years to come when we'll be wanting to have some indoor space when we travel. I love being outside all the time in the 105, but it's pretty miserable when cold or wet. How about some photos of the inside of the van?

Yep sure do. I'm bit late to the party, but FWIW while the 1HZ lacks power I've always found it to be fine for my needs . Radiator overheating

    Bonnet Strut

It's just a standard gas strut - if you know the length you could probably get it slightly cheaper else where, but probably not much, so I'd go with the RT one. Do it sooner rather than later - I ignored the warning signs on mine (a few taps on the head) and got a much bigger 'tap' on the head...

Who's using what air-down tool for their tyres ?

I've got a copy of the ARB E-Z deflator which I wouldn't be without. I would also change the tyre valve if I started to...
