Dervis’ 80 is close to mint condition with the work he’s done on it. Of course, I can’t say an 80 wouldn’t be my first choice (I’m well biased) but you’d probably be happier with something newer than a 25 year old truck. As Dervis said, a 90 or a 120 would probably be somewhere to start. Beware...

It’s traditionally a 30 year old Dacia 1310 (not a Fiesta) Shayne, basically it’s the front wheel drive Renault 13 that never was (AFAIK anyway). Trust me, it can be embarrassing after fighting your way up in an 80 with all 3 lockers working overtime.... :lol:

IMHO the order of any work on this should be cheapest first. First replace UJs, Second check drive shafts/CVs Last the diff pinion gears. I‘ve had excessive front diff play for the last 5 years (460k km on it now) and apart from a whine under drive, which decreases with speed, it’s still holding...

Yep, I’m with Shayne, worn or seizing UJs can give you precisely those symptoms, so check them out thoroughly, they can be deceiving. There should be zero play in the rotation plane, but to check that you need two pry-bars or hefty screwdrivers as levers to work them in opposing directions...

I’ve run 305/70/16s on 10” -25 offset for years, and had no problems with popping beads Offroad. It all depends on what type of terrain you run on. Here I find I don’t need to air down on the offroad runs I do, they‘re loose rock and bare soil trails mostly, so I’m not crawling up steep slab...

I suppose it depends on what you compare them with. A 100% asphalt tyre will give you way more grip in the wet, but compare them against a mud tyre, such as KM2s, and they’re way better. I‘ve got 285/75/16 KO2s on my 80 at present, and I’m well pleased with them as a good all-rounder.
