    Camper conversions - Brave Pills

Right, I like campers, along-with my 80 I also own a Bongo 4WD, which is rather an ideal sort of base vehicle its a Poptop full camper conversion one. However there is one issue, I need to tow my boat, its quite big & well the trailer is bigger bit. The Bongo does it rather well but technically...

    Engine Pre-heater

Karl, 1: Does the fan come on when powering them up? if so the length of time they run for dictates the fault. Usually its the glowplug resistance or water pump resistance out of range. Rummage "Fuel Burning Heater" on the Rover 75 forums & you will find all the info you need. They must be...

    Engine Pre-heater

They are really simple to fix if they don't work though, if the ecu is duff (rare) there is a man who will fix them for £60. Usually its a duff fuel or water pump that stops them working.

    Engine Pre-heater

It will work fine so long as its not the highest part of the water works. I have one (on my conservatory UFH) it has its own header tank but it no more than 6" below the top of the water level. They are pretty well sealed, OE spec sealed electric plugs etc. It will be fine in an engine bay. I...

    Engine Pre-heater

I've just fitted a Webasto to my Mazda Bongo camper, pretty simple job (relatively) I've plumbed into the main heater circuit & rewired the factory rear heater blower (just like the 80 LC's) it runs off its own leisure battery which gives it about 24hours of run time. It awesome as I now a...

    Snorkel

We have one for so my wife can get to work when it rains for more than 3 days on the trot. The alternative is a long walk & the dog has to swim for it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbkPThLwB8A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbkPThLwB8A

    Not dear.

The wear to the seats might suggest thats a genuine one for a change!

    Something different for Camping

With the Webasto's the early Rover 75 ones are best 98/2002 they will run & work with POS NEG & POS switched, later ones need canbus to work.

    Something different for Camping

The ones I use are from Rover 75's & they come with an intake hose silencer as standard. The noisiest part is the pump, exhaust is pretty quiet esp once running, is yours mounted on rubber mounts or direct?

    Something different for Camping

I have used the Webasto Thermotops with success (eg my conservatory underfloor heating!) They are a 5kw diesel heater, totally self contained with a water pump, remote fuel pump etc, just need 12v & a switch, on the cars I use a remote plipper to trigger them. Had thought about doing one in my...

    Mud driving..the 80 is no light-footed pony!

The Wranglers AT's are the main problem, having recently used them in some hilly muddy fields in Wales I would say they are useless in gooey mud. Compared to M/T's that had no bother at all.

Transmission fault codes - but whats the fix?

Got a later auto 80 here with the electronic autobox with a flashing OD light. Pulled the codes & have 42 - TPS & 64 - Speed sensor not being seen. I'm assuming its some dodgy plug or wiring going on, has anybody had similar & managed to fix it? I'll pull the loom first to check it over but...

HDJ80 1HD-T cruise control fault, cruise lamp 5 blinks

The light will flash the fault codes simply by pressing two buttons on the stalk, then up & down will tell you the codes. Simples but I've forgotten what the sequence is, google it.

    Comfortable Pillows

Proper home pillows of the feather type win every time, they compress down really well. As I spend much of year in hotels I always take my own pillow.

Gearbox problem on way from Switzerland to Hungary

I have a spare transfer box for an early HDJ81 auto (with no Viscous) sat in my garage, all good too. Might work out a lot cheaper!

2002 battery/ABS/VSC?Traction and Brake lights on

I'd vote for grounding straps, my bet is some are missing. See if a jump lead or two across the block/chassis/battery neg terminals cures it.

Snow chain question - quick reply if poss

On the front wheels is the default for one pair of chains on a 4x4, little to do with traction its all about being be able to steer especially round the twisties.

    Manual gearbox oil discussion.

I have a lot experience with R154 gearboxes, the 2WD version of the LC box as found in Supra's etc. Usually running with 500-600hp. What I use to use was a mix of MT75 & Autobox lube, massively improved the shifting qualities. Now my new LC80 which is a manual is suffering from appalling cold...

I'm after some big'ish tyres 35" 315-285/75/16's or similar ideally 16" diameter but can do 15" if so. Got cash, can collect almost anywhere. What you got going folks?

Buying an 80 - deal breakers

The Jap import "Snow Editions" have what you want, lockers, auto, nice specced trucks, a few about & they tend to be a lot less rusty than the UK ones.

How do you clean your engine compartment???

TFR mixed with a little petrol (about 1/3rd petrol), is THE best engine bay cleaner ever, leave it for 5 mins & pressure wash off. No issues with using water just avoid the important bits up close with the jetwash

Evoque and Range Rover keyless entry defeated

There is a very extensive thread on pistonheads all about the BMW issue. Basically they break a window which won't set the alarm off, reach down to the OBD port & 20secs later new key programmed. I've also heard they can access the ecu's via the door window electrics on the canbus.
