Just a thought: These are common on camper vans too. Maybe there is a camper sales / service garage near you that could help?

This may be the relevant circuit David if it’s any use. I’m not yet up to speed how to read locations of fuses etc but it may help? 15A ECU-IG may be the first one to check

Check fuse for immobiliser and earth connection. It seems that the immobiliser isn’t getting power to disarm.

    Broken Engine

Hopefully it seized before the oil ran out. Fingers crossed the crank is ok or it will likely be crank regrind, rebore, face the block, new pistons and rings, new main and big end shell bearings and maybe thrust washers. Then there’s the things you may as well do while in there like oil seals...

    Broken Engine

Wow, what a mess, but she still got you home! What now? Inspect the crank to see how bad it is?

Now what?! No power, black smoke... sigh

A short flexi joint is fairly inexpensive. It might be worth a trial just to identify whether the cat is the issue. Then it could be carried in case the cat gets blocked again?

Roof tent v normal tent ?

The Berghaus looks like a lightweight one which is good. I went down the oztent route which is very flexible but quite heavy.

Roof tent v normal tent ?

For me, a roof tent is for touring with one or 2 nights in each place. Max two people. Downside is weight / bulk on the roof but unavoidable, so get a streamlined low weight one. My preferred M.O. is to set up a base and explore the area for a few days or a week so a ground tent is best so it...

    Headlights

The later single unit lights don’t fit unless you replace the trim panel under the lights too and possibly other mods. There was a youtube video about this mod on a 105 series that I remember watching by an Australian guy

Who is doing what maintenance today?

Starting to tackle some niggles on the new 105: Found out why interior lights were not working, only 2 of the 4 door switches worked and had a poor connection on the ceiling lamp. Swapped the two working switches to the front doors and polished the contacts in the light. Ordered 4 new switches...

    Rev Counter Aggro

Thanks @Jon Wildsmith Yes this is what I’m hoping - that I can jump the signal from ECU to the rev counter. Just received some manuals which may help. But as per you I don’t have a HZJ79 manual so if plan A doesn’t work it may get more tricky.

    Rev Counter Aggro

Thanks @Shayne As a last resort I will replace the rev counter with an aftermarket unit and an alternator pick up may well be fine for that. My first engines fuel pump had a separate rpm pick up on the fuel pump. The new engines fuel pump doesn’t have a separate rpm sensor so I believe...

    Rev Counter Aggro

Thanks Shayne, will have a good look at the diesel pump wiring and see if I can find a way to make the rev counter move using 12v and a resistor or something. There are 2 spare wires not connected to anything so will try those first

    Rev Counter Aggro

Ok so my HZJ105’s original 2004 1HZ engine has been replaced by a new 1HZ engine from a HZJ79 which was manufactured around 2014 so I’m told. With the new Engine came the new fuel pump: I believe the original fuel pump had a rev counter sensor but the new pump doesn’t. The rev counter does...

    1988 2h idle up/ down

does the car have aircon? If so it would idle up when aircon is on. If it’s going on and off is there an issue with the circuit / switch / ground ? This is what I would look at first

    Fitting new steering wheel

From looking at the parts on amayama, it looks like there are some covers on each side of the wheel that need to be prised off to access the airbag retention screws. Once undone this should be carefully pulled off forwards. This will then give you access to the centre nut holding the wheel on...

    EGT Gauge Installation

Thanks Lorin. - more good advice. Let’s get the gauge in and see what it says while I keep investigating and researching. Will drive the 60 only for now. The previous owner wanted it set up really safe which I’m sure it is but I just want to confirm it with some facts. While waiting for the...
