    Rock sliders

I had a set of sliders sat in the garage for 6 years before I sold them. After driving extensive lanes across England and Wales, and 1,000s miles of off-road trails across Europe and Russia, I have never once needed a set of sliders. For the cost of a set of sliders I would imagine there are...

Question 80 gurus: Slack in the rear propshaft splines... is it just a case of replacing the prop or...

Unfortunately I just haven’t the right experiences to trust getting something made will be made to an appropriate spec for the 80 and how it is used. An OEM prop is properly balanced and constructed and can take the stress the 80 is subjected to when used as I do. I have had some poor...

Question 80 gurus: Slack in the rear propshaft splines... is it just a case of replacing the prop or...

I am in for the same. As I understand it you need the whole prop. Front section won’t be enough. It is possible to source second hand but you take your chances... I am still undecided as don’t want to find myself needing another one. Good option from over the pond would be Brand New Rear Drive...

    a lot of warning lights

Based on my experience I’d definitely warn against a cheap replacement. I bought a new alternator from Roughtrax and it’s lasted less than 12 months. If you’re keeping the vehicle for a while I’d invest in a quality replacement or rebuild.

105 new engine - ceramic pistons

My understanding is that if EGTs are within ‘safe’ limits the 1hz is probably okay at 17psi but it is a big if. I don’t believe it is possible for EGTs at 17psi of boost to be anywhere near safe without a good intercooler. Is your EGT probe in the manifold? If you are managing your EGTs within...

Suspected head issue - repair in UK?

There’s also nothing specialist about changing a Land Cruiser head gasket. Anyone with experience can do it. Who's using what air-down tool for their tyres ?

I have a 2way indeflate. One of the few ‘gadgets’ actually worth having. Hardly used in UK but used 100s times on 6-month trip. Makes airing up and down much easier.

    Intercooler failures

Not quite. The air in the intercooler has already been pressurised (i.e. compressed) by the turbo. This is why it gets hot and why an intercooler helps by cooling the pressurised air. If you get a leak it is a boost leak and you lose power. Your engine needs pressurised air, not air at...

    Intercooler failures

I’d suggest reading through this thread, especially the first 20-30 pages or so https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/the-official-1hdt-intercooler-thread.514067/ There is extensive data testing a2a, w2a, and top vs front mount. All data converges on front mount a2a being the optimal set-up by a...

SnoMaster EX67D Expedition Dual Compartment Fridge Freezer

I only noticed because the temp was outside of the range for my setting. I usually set the temp to 2C so the range is 0-4C but I saw it was over 4C. When it happened I could see the compressor light was on but it wasn’t running. I simply switched off and on and it worked again. Only ever done it...

    Swing away tyre carrier build

How to get a steady 12v supply for camper trailer ect???

If the LC200 is a standard 12 volt system, I would suggest simply removing the existing wiring and running dedicated feeds from the starter battery to wherever you want to go. You can then be sure the wiring is as it should be. I have a trailer with a DCDC charger powered by a single feed from...

    Air Conditioning radiator

The coolant mixing with ATF is another of those supposed issues with AFAIK absolutely no evidence in Toyotas. I’ve certainly never come across any report of it happening in a Toyota. If the OEM radiator is in good shape this is not going to be an issue and as I stated above, that is a...

    Air Conditioning radiator

I also have the same on my current 80 and had one on the previous 80. Both always read 70-80c under normal driving, spiking to an absolute max of 95-100c when engine severely worked (climbing alpine pass towing in 30c).

    80 Series 12v Starter recomendations? (for a 24-12v convesrion)

Dave did indeed convert to 12v starter from a 100 series but it is not a straight swap as there are a different number of teeth on the cog which needs sorting.
