Flux quoted me about £2k to insure my 78. NFU were less than half that. I previously used A-plan for the FJ and they offered the identical policy to Flux for half the price too.
I had the rear corners and B pillar areas repaired on my 70, (similar and same rot issues) The fabricator just cut out the rot and welded in repair metal to be as good as new. Not sure where you’d find new panels in the UK without buying from Toyota. May be worth a dig around German groups?
I have a set on my Troopy. The only tyre I could find in Europe in the size! So far I like them. Not pushed them in hard off road yet but perform well on mild terrain and on road. A friend in the Vermont, US ran them and loved them she says good in snow and ice (and she gets plenty of both in...
Well if that price is registered UK duty paid then it’s pretty good. Add 10% duty and then 20% VAT to the Dutch price and there’s not much profit there. But to me it smells of scam…. Why would you buy it from the Netherlands, bring it into UK deal with all the hassle to make just £2k on it?
OK so if you bought hub centric spacers they will not fit your hubs. The internal diameter is less where they are hub centric. (There is a lip on the inside) You need to have them machined out so that they fit. I had this done to mine. Here is a pic pre machining. You can see the lip and how...
I have 50mm spacers on the rear and 40mm on the front of my 78. no issues with stud length at all. so may be worth changing spacers or the nuts that secure them?
I also ran similar on my 1993 KZJ70 without issue (6 stud semi float axles)
I had a KZJ70 and finally broke a rear shaft. I found a heavy duty option via All-American imports in The Netherlands. But I am going back to around 2009 so this might be useless info.
They do occasionally come up for sale. Mostly older 1HZ models. I’d sell mine for the right money but it doesn’t tick your boxes being a LHD 1GR. There was one in Bristol area advertised on the Expeditionmeister.com website. Also worth looking on mobile.de but they will all be LHD I think.
No personal knowledge but a friend had some work done, quoted one price for a set job, bill was double or more no additional work carried out than that quoted for which was a straightforward bracket weld on rear axle.
Sounds like fuel is being gravity fed into the main tank. So whilst you are using fuel from your main tank it is being fed constantly hence you gauge readings. This is how the (OE) FJ aux tank works. If your tank has a transfer pump maybe the valve is stuck open and it is just pulling fuel through.
Yes I earthed it to the chassis. As this is an aftermarket light it would also be worth checking the switch function and connection if the earth doesn’t fix it
I’m not sure which fog you refer to. The OE pillar lights or the aftermarket one I fitted under the bumper for IVA? Either way it sounds like an earth issue. Check the earth connector is clean and making good contact with chassis if that’s how it is connected. All light fuses are in the...
So if I understand correctly there are two things going on here? 1) you swapped out the old H4 connectors for new ones. 2) you added in a lightbar to come on with hibeam.
1) If you simply cut and shut there should be no issues and doesn’t matter on pos or neg switching you’re just joining wires...
Hi @Pachyderme80 yes the sound deadening is fine. I just bought the cheapest good quality one I could find as they’re all pretty much the same I had ‘Mute Mat’. It makes a big difference to the car and I’m sure it does add some insulation too but I also used a self adhesive closed cell foam on...
Re the dealer stamp at 17k on a car being sold with 14k on the clock I would think that could simply be that the service interval is miles/time. Can you cross reference by MoT history?
If there is a choice I’d go for a vehicle on springs not air for durability.
I was talking to a dealer...
Lazer do offer a replacement grille option for the J7 and I’ve also seen one on a MAN (VW Crafter) van. Their individual lights are expensive so no idea what the grill will set you back.
Oh and I re-rigged the rear winch rope. Removed the thimble and spliced to incorporate a soft shackle end as a part of the rope with a short and long loop option.
The front panel is a 100W flexible from Renogy. The rear one is 170W from Firefly (Amazon) Eco-Worthy do one the same size.
Both are mounted using aluminium angle to the roof rails (the flexible is mounted with an air gap, not glued down)
Sizes that fitted my space and max of 290W input to the...
“New 70” B pillar back looks identical, just another change to the front aesthetics. Looks like they tried to merge the old and current styling, (and failed IMO) Only the engine is really any different with a hybrid 2.8D based on the Hilux.
It doesn’t matter if the emissions data is in the system. The vehicle will be tested in accordance to it’s age. My car shows no data. It is tested to current standards being a 2022 vehicle.
I would see the ‘if’ as being the testing. So here in the UK if it were classified as Euro5 it would need to pass the MoT emissions test to that level.
Welcome. Generally speaking for the UAE the special editions are done by Al Futtain or dealers and generally have a few non Toyota its added on. For example the FJ Extreme had a compressor, some wheel arch flares and a few other bits added to it. You should be able to run your VIN through a...
Totally agree. I’d not realised the 1HD was fitted until more recently. It seems Toyota did this for a very short production. There are few around, some in South Africa and Auatralia.
If I’d found one in my searches I’d probably have bought it!
The 70 series, in any model guise has never been available in the USA. Those vehicles there are personnel imports and most have come from Japan. The light duty versions of the J7 did come out in Japan with Auto options but as far as I am aware all the HD variants have a 5 speed manual
The 76,78...
There are plenty of 70’s coming into Germany but they are all GR’s the V6 Petrol) that might be a good indicator on whether you are able to import. I would think the HZ will be a no go as it is not a Euro engine and certainly not Euro6. Companies in Netherlands and Belgium are selling them but...
There are a few around but importing from somewhere that doesn’t use salt on the roads is a good option for an older Cruiser. either from Japan, South Africa or Australia.
Bear in mind shipping is slow and expensive these days. Worth a search around the car selling websites in those countries...
