Dodgy oil? This could be expensive.....

Well the pump finally arrived yesterday - allowing the rebuild to get started........ Graphogen applied to bearing surfaces Spot the deliberate error? Pump and Timing Gears on - love the simplicity of setting the gears New front pulley (the old one was showing signs of rubber splitting)

    Couriers - Good and Bad

:) Way back from when the schools single BBC Micro used to be wheeled into class I remember the teacher telling the class "remember, GIGO - Garbage In, Garbage Out" Its rung true to date!

need advice, essential kit for off roading

The list can be as long as your arm and very subjective to where you are travelling / doing - e.g. miles / days away from any help - are you traveling alone etc. Whats your plans? One thing for sure, and something which breaks my heart to see - off roaders who have broken down with no...

    Couriers - Good and Bad

If you want the real icing on the cake............. So, Parcel monkey failed, I cancelled them - with an email sent from them acknowledging them this, I paid another £25 for ipostparcels to go and collect Friday for Saturday delivery. Anyway, I check Ipost parcels on the Saturday morning for...

    Couriers - Good and Bad

Recently I had a comedy of errors that you couldn't dream of with a reasonably well known courier service re-seller. A long story short is, that through recommendation of many I used a company in Swindon to service / repair my fuel injectoin pump (Rvs Diesel limited) who said they would...

    HDK cv joints

Agree, if you know you can compensate for them and they could last a lifetime! If your a road motor with standard tyres I really wouldn't worry too much, its through neglect, bigger tyres and abuse that the cheaper ones wont tolerate.

Dodgy oil? This could be expensive.....

Had a good weekend rebuilding the lump (considering the fuel pump failed to deliver - another story of courier issues) - bottom end, head and turbo on. A friend comes around, looks in the engine bay and stops play!.................... Pan-hard Rod inner mounting (steering box mount side...

I have and do not know anything about the KAVO ones they sell but those or even the HDK ones will get you rolling.

Useful look inside the 80 tansfer box

I once read (way before the internet) a paper on how long it would take for the free wheeling hubs fitted to a LR Series 2 to pay back the investment of the equipment - it was something ridiculous like 1.2 million miles as the effect was minimal. I used to love the Fairey Overdrives, used to...

Dodgy oil? This could be expensive.....

A long story short is that I happen to be good friends with a guy who lives next door to a semi retired turbo demi god! with a full engineering workshop at home - only 15 miles from me which was a bonus. Unfortunately for them, that means they live in Scunthorpe :) - somebody has too I guess...

Some more shiny new parts, Bolts, Seals, Gaskets and Hoses: All genuine Toyota - thanks to Julian at Overland Cruisers for sorting these. Just the fuel pump to arrive and the rebuild can begin!

    HDK cv joints

Probably about right Dave, I seem to recall it costing around £750 including shipping and import duty - that was 4 or 5 years ago.

    HDK cv joints

I would not touch the HDK with a barge pole - I broke a pair for fun. Although they are line bored (gun drilled) now, which should provide extra strength. Perhaps if they were on a standard motor with standard size tyres that only saw tarmac then perhaps, but for anything that tows, wears...

    Oh bugger!!!!

It would make an excellent place for a meet up - good camp site and facilities. The good thing about Kirton Shayne is that there is something for everyone, from very mild to extreme. Plenty of daily drivers go, the problem is usually the nut behind the wheel! Agree, certainly in my case...

    Oh bugger!!!!

Nice one :) I've flopped it there a few times, the place can be very unforgiving but is one of the best locations in the UK for out and out off roading. The worst thing is I have no excuse, I know it intimately, I was one of the original group who set up KORC. When we first started there were...

More shiny bits arriving - Turbo fully re-conditioned and improved - bespoke billet turbo wheel, machine housing - approx 60% increase on stock flow and 29psi safe Although the oil pipes were full of carbon / crud - so pipe modified - I will do a full write up and who did what / recommended...

Mine has never been that low (but those gauges are a tell tale rather than precise I guess). The problem for me was the pressure was and stayed significantly lower than only 15 mins before - something occurred - hence the strip down. My turbo is being re-conditioned and made into a 22psi...

Dodgy oil? This could be expensive.....

Yes mate - it had a little weep on a gasket, so sent it for a birthday and to test out the injectors. Interestingly, he knew I had run bio diesel through it at some point as he could see the "jelly" and other contaminants (even though filtered) - the scary part is that I only ever ran three...

    Interesting Morning

As you say, that could have been a lot worse, for you, your motor and others! Pleased you had the best possible outcome for such an event. I would automatically have suspicion, especially if no recent maintenance has been undertaken - Im sure the police will take it seriously if you do find...

And back in the game - I needed to park the thing up and let it fester for a couple of months to wait for the enthusiasm to come back....... it finally has!
