    HDJ100 drive train failure

How has your brake pedal been? Worn bearings allow the hub/brake disc to move back and forth independently of the brake caliper, this pushes the brake pads back away from the disc, so you end up with a longer brake pedal as the pads have to be pushed back into contact with the disc before they...

Your road tax is going up again

Annoying to see an increase when the roads are in such a poor state, but not a surprise, it's only ever going to go one way. The very faint and distant silver lining to the planned tax/mot changes is that many of our enthusiast owned vehicles are over half way towards their 40th birthday, when...

    HDJ100 drive train failure

If I've understood your post correctly I'd be looking for a failure in the front axle, probably a CV joint. As if the front propshaft was turning whilst the vehicle was in drive (auto gearbox) but the handbrake was applied and the vehicle not moving, there will be a failure between the front...

New member moved to London, UK with FJ40

Welcome to near London, that's a nice collection of Land Cruisers you have. Unfortunately Land Cruiser mechanics are a bit thin on the ground in the south east, it may be better to search out an old school mechanic who understands the older technology that is a 40.

Warning about Ebay UK seller 'smokeandpetfreehome'

An unfortunate experience, I hope it all comes good for you in the end. Re not being mobile enough to be able to view 80s, I'd consider buying a cheap car to get you on the road, it'll start the insurance and allow you travel to view 80s. Viewing 80s will always involve a fair bit of travel...

Hedgehog - 3rd leg of round the world - Southern Africa

Thanks for the detailed reply Steve. Your experience just goes to show how well Toyotas engineering and design stands up to hard use, especially verses the aftermarket kit. Even the premium aftermarket kit is only so good, and it is frustrating when you buy quality kit and then have to adjust it...

Hedgehog - 3rd leg of round the world - Southern Africa

Amazing pictures! I have enjoyed following your progress on FB. Looking forward to the next leg. How has Hedgehog 2.0 performed during your extensive touring, anything you would change from your original design/set up. On the face of it it looks like the 100 series has done you proud.

    Noob saying hello

Welcome to the forum. Having just looked at the pictures for the grey 80 on ebay, has it had a light front end bump? The front panel (panel with the front indicators) is out of line with both wings; bonnet to wings gaps look okay. Is the condensation due to the carpets being wet vac'd by the...

A few rare Cruisers (for the UK)

It's a rare truck over here and it would be great if it found its way into the club. IIRC it's been on eBay before by this owner, and with the same pics, but it was a little while back. Would make a great overland pop top camper, just as Stan did recently with his yellow troopy. This one just...

    Rear tyre wear. Not Cruiser.

I have seen this on a MK1 Octavia VRS as well, but they have low profile tyres, which were quite worn at the time and this particular car was being driven like it had been stolen most of the time. It was the inner edges that had misshapen. This VRS currently has 320K on the clock on the...

    Rear tyre wear. Not Cruiser.

Seen it happen a few times on a number of vehicles, normally front wheel drive cars with old and fairly worn rear tyres. The rear tyres tend to misshapen like a fifty pence piece, you can feel it just by running your hand around the tyre. It's often the inner shoulder that deforms first. A...

A few rare Cruisers (for the UK)

The camo 105 is unusual in that the ad says it has an intercooler and puts out 230bhp, so I wonder if it is a 1HD-FT or if it's a 1HD with an aftermarket turbo? Either way if the price could be negotiated down to iro £20K that would be about right for a truck with this kit, but needs the wrap...

Paul Bowles - sad sad news

I met Paul a while back now at one of the Lincomb club meets, he had his 100 series at the time, and very kindly showed me how capable it was by expertly chauffeuring me around the many tracks. They're a funny colour

A case of quality suffering whilst chasing quantity? Even so, that is a pretty basic error. Although I am surprised that the sump plug was used, lots of garages seem to such the oil out these days, and I'm told some engines don't even have sump plugs. 8K at cost, wow, that is spendy, even for a...

    London Pollution Charges

To answer Gary's original question, not that I know of, you'd need to buy a car that 'complies'. Now if someone was to come up with a viable kit to convert existing internal combustion engined cars to electric propulsion then that could work. You won't be able to have the lights on and watch...

    London Pollution Charges

This makes my blood boil. Kahn is the mayor of London, he can do what he wants in the centre of London, congestion charge this, pollution charge that, extra to park your car if it's not new enough, but extend this out to the north and south circular and you affect a lot of people; many of these...

Ex One life adventure 80 series? If it is, it's certainly a well travelled 80, but it wouldn't worry me as it will have been maintained to a high standard as it was a vital tool to the business. IIRC Julian at Overland Cruisers did a lot of the maintenance on that truck. Welcome by the way...

Bonnet bug deflectors.. yes or no

The 105 has a genuine Toyota one that was fitted when I bought it. It's transparent with Land Cruiser lettering on it. Fitment is very good, it doesn't move about and hasn't marked the paint. Age and some mistreatment are starting to get to it, but it looks good and I plan to keep it fitted...

    Spare wheel....

That's what they look like after a life time under the back of the 80, all the road grime, grit and salt just sits on it. I coated mine in silicon grease to protect it. It's worth service the chain winch as well, they get such little use. Refurbished wheel looks good.

    Died!!!

Must be something in the air? My 105 alternator is failing to charge at idle, brings up an array of warning lights when the engine falls to idle, but is managing 13.5v at fast idle. Fortunately it managed the 350mile round trip to Lincomb at the weekend, having failed at 21:00 the evening...

    Overland show 2017

Just concerned that with two AO shows to chose from, traders and exhibitors might pick one or the other to attend and not both, thus diluting the show for the paying public. TWO AO SHOWS! Is there the demand for that? I'd have focused on devoloping the one show rather than diluting efforts across two. Humm.... Even more chance of clashing with our Lincomb meets.
