I have the Iron Man cube in the 105 that was in Oz. When we arrived in Oz we were very kindly given a large quantity of good quality meat, so we ran the smaller compartment as a freezer and the larger one as a fridge. Impressive! You should have plenty of space to make a great camper on that platform. The Abentuer & Allrad show is a wonderland for an overlander. I'd love to follow your build on here. What's the future for your 80? Staying in the fleet or is it off to new adventures with a new owner?

Agreed, they shouldn't be far off. Once I've stripped the 105 axle I'll see what differences Mr T has made to the design.

Thanks for the reply Dave. Getting the parts was no problem, Simon got them no problem. Agreed it should almost be identical to an 80 axle, but the hub is definitely different as an 80 takes a six stud wheel, the 105 has a 5 stud. I have the 105 parts and an 80 FSM so I shouldn't be too far...

1) I'd explore the possibility of installing a trans cooler from a petrol 80, if you feel the need for an additional one. The petrols had a separate one as standard; Gary posted a pic of his a while back, a bit of searching may unearth it. There are also threads on here discussing the hot topic...

Does anyone know where I can find, or have a download of, the 105 series Factory Service Manual? I need to replace a front inner axle oil seal, so I'm after the torque figures. I have an 80 series FSM and would think they would be very similar, if not the same, but I'd like FSM to confirm.

Remove the sensors and clean them would be my advice based on previous experience. I'd start with the front. Easy job.

3rd party is sometimes more expensive as the insurance company may take the view that you don't care about the vehicle that you are driving, and therefore are at greater risk of crashing it.

Dealing with insurance companies can be frustrating if you ask them to consider covering anything that isn't familiar to them, they want easy simple, low risk customers. Or looking at it another way, is this another step to limit vehicle modification? Have you tried Heritage?

I know that feeling, but it lives on as a great example of an 80 series. Hope Guy gets as much enjoyment from the ownership experience as we did.

These Really Useful Boxes are strong and durable, I have used them for touring with no issues. B&Q sell some of the range, Staples used to as well; not a great help to you in France, but they maybe sold by similar outlets...

Good work Chris, I always felt too close to the windscreen in the 80; I put it down to there being three rows of forward facings seats, plus the Japs aren't known for their long legs. Even the 105 could still do with more legroom.

I've used these guides books https://www.mdmot.de/en/pyrenees-offroad.html and have found them very good and excellent value. I bought them 7/8 years ago when only the German versions were available, so I had to do some translation work, but they have English versions now. The GPS disc was spot on.
