    Fridge and battery/solar panel size

@Cistec - we hope to be spending a year driving around Australia in 2018 - planning on messing about around the Simpson, Oodnadatta, Cape York, Tasmania, around the big circuit, all over really. As you'll be an expert by then I will be able to ask you for input in our prep. Will be bringing the...

    Fridge and battery/solar panel size

Yes - you have to have a little extra, but not too much as then you will be over engineering - more weight, more cost etc. The most important thing in my view is to understand what, where, when and how you intend to use your vehicle.....this will help guide your needs and thus your requirements...

    tailegate wheel holder

How about an ARB rear carrier and bumper - expensive sure, but very strudy (read heavy). The boss that holds the wheel can be slid in and out so that wider wheels can be accommodated. You can see pictures of my 285/75 on an ARB in my hedgehog build thread. You can 2 wheels side by side @ 285/75...

    100 Series whistle/squeal

Turbo would be my guess.....check everything is good and tight and no pin holes. I had a slightly off-tight hose and that made a bit of a whistle as the boost kicked in.....5 mins fixed that

    Fridge and battery/solar panel size

Sorry - my mistake - it is the 2150s that have a mirror image pair and you can get two of those in a 100. So you did not waste your time after all!

Hedgehog - 3rd leg of round the world - Southern Africa

Sani pass is on the list - and I will take a look at the other route to see how we can fit it in. Thanks for the tip

Do you mean 80% discharged or 20% discharged leaving 80% capacity?

    Fridge and battery/solar panel size

I thoroughly rate the Odyssey's too - if it wasn't for the fact that I would have to refit at least two if not 3 batteries then I'd have done it - but it was just too costly. Best not to mix and match the AGM with LA batteries. The Odyssey's I took to arctic Norway at -40C and Sahara at +40c and...

3rd battery in place in engine bay. Battery set up so it can double as a starter battery should that fail. Fuel filter mounted on side of battery tray along with the ARB locker compressor. AHC removed long ago.

    Fridge and battery/solar panel size

Some thoughts on my overland experience running a fridge/battery long term. My 50L Waeco c/w insulating cover draws 5.3A and at 40C is running 55% of the time. I found that having only a single 100Ah leisure battery under those conditions even with an 80W panel is just not sufficient to power a...

Hedgehog - 3rd leg of round the world - Southern Africa

I think the hedgehog is pining a little to see you too. Strange to think that that truck only had 34000 miles on it in the first 12 years of its life, and we've put on another 50000 in the last 3 since buying it off you. If all goes well we'll be passing your area in mid-Sept and again at end of...

    Tough Dog Suspension

I'm using the big bore tough dogs (42mm I think) on the rear of my 100. So far they have been faultless - 40,000 miles mostly at full weight, lots of washboard overlanding. They are easy to adjust for stiffness using the thumb screw.

    Battery tray recommendations

I now run a 1+2 (starter+leisure) set up based around an IBS split charger, twin solar panels. The only thing I would say is to consider that AGM and lead acid batteries have subtly different full charge voltages - ie don't mix the two technologies. I have been advised to look at battery to...

    Hedgehog - LC100 build thread

Back from our trip of North Americas and the dust has settled. Time now to provide an update of what worked and more importantly what didn't work so well. 35000 miles of which 7000 on dirt and plenty of pot holes. Coped with temps up to 49C without issue. The good news is that there were no...

www.tripline.net It is beta but I like the unlimited mapping waypoints which you don't get on google. It uses the same mapping but I have doubts about the accuracy of the mileage that it comes up with

    1hd-fte fuel filter replacement

Thanks for the tips - much appreciated. When I had my Defender you were supposed to buy a special LR pump tool otherwise you'd REALLY struggle to get it going again......never bought one as they were so expensive, so pleased to see no special tooling required on Toyota

    1hd-fte fuel filter replacement

uHu - thanks for that tip on the longer filter - I'll take a look at that. I've moved the moved the whole filter assy to get the third battery in, so I'll check I've still got space for that. Can I get that from Toyota UK parts desk in the normal way?

Welcome Rob - would be good to catch up with you if you are around Zambia later this year. I'll no doubt pick your brains on matters Africa. Thanks for all your thoughts.....we are not planning to go into Tanzania (already been there) and will stay on the Zambian side. We're planning to drive from Mpulungu, close to the border but not over the border at Tunduma (Tanzania - here to force the mapping to not go another way), and Nakonde...
