    LJ70 Build Thread!

None at quite the angle of yours through, top one is in droop, also a 4 link behaves differently when articulating than a 3 link A frame set up

    LJ70 Build Thread!

Rear suspension looks good but I would be tempted to have the a frame running more level than that, needs more separation at the axle end and less at the chassis, should mean less rear steer when flexing

    LSD for LJ70

The truetrac isn't a diff lock but a mechanical LSD, much better than the standard Toyota LSD but not as good as a diff lock

    Help needed

Yep sounds like the one, once turbocharged with the bits from your engine it can easily make near the power of the 1kzt, is less prone to the head going than the 2.4 so more reliable, so I'd say go for the 2.8, 1kzt would require different bell housing and and engine mounts moving

    Help needed

If it has the engine code 3L it will be the one
  6. H

    Help needed

Yep the 2.8l is the same block so will bolt right into place
  7. H

    Help needed

If you can get your hands on a 2.8 engine code 3l from a hilux import that will bolt straight up to your bell housing and take all the turbo bits from your engine, more reliable as well

Sounds like the head has cracked, is a very common fault with those engines

    LJ79 winch question

Im tempted at a superwinch tiger shark as well, the lj79 should be the same as the 78, a 9000lb winch should be plenty, the 12000lb will have the same motor just a lower gearing to make up the extra power but will be slower

    LJ70 Build Thread!

Congratulations on the new place, no point living in a poisonous environment, best thing to do moving out and get a fresh start, I say slam your LJ B) I reccon you could get the 37s on with a 2" lift and a healthy chop to the arches, would make it a lot more stable

    Landcruiser lj70 [creepycruiser]

    Project HZJ 78

255/100 is closer to a 9.00 than an 8.25, its the carcass that the fedima sirroco and ziarreli extreme forest are made from and they measure around 36.5" tall

    hairyguy's kzj70 build

Bit of work on the cruiser today, decided I wanted a better approach angle and to do that I had to redo the winch mount so might as well change the lot, had bought a bumper from mtm in kit form for my 80 but sold it before building so decided to fit to the 70 Original bumper Approach...

    front drive shaft length

Possibly thinking of stretching the wheelbase of my 70 and want to keep with standard parts rather than get a shaft custom made, could someone measure their front drive shaft for me? Hoping that it's a few inches longer than the standard 70 one Cheers jack:thumbup:

Rear axle options? WHat am I missing?

No real need with the 100, its upgraded from the 80 rear axle with higher spline count on the rear shafts and has larger rear hub studs (10mm vs the 80s 8mm studs)
  32. H

Rear axle options? WHat am I missing?

The rear shafts in the 100s are bloody strong and shouldn't need upgrading, 32 spline I believe

    LJ70 Build Thread!

Bfg km2s rock on rock, they are based off of probably the best crawler tyre going the bfg krawler B) when you 3 link the back of your truck you'll love it, it will make a world of difference on the uphill flexy sections, makes the front end much less likely to lift
  41. H

New user looking for some info on LJ78

The 2.8 when turboed is a nice powerful engine, the lj78 has no centre diff so 4wd is only used off road, rear wheel drive for road, they are comfortable trucks in lwb, and in my opinion I prefer the 70 series over the 80 for body shape
  42. H

    Genuine alloy wheel weight?

The weight between them is negligible, for a vehicle like the 80 I'm sure you won't really notice, only when going to extremes in tyre weight will it show, my wheel/ tyre combo (37" remoulds + heavy steel beadlocks ) is around 70kg so over ¼ a ton all in and still drives pretty good
  43. H

    Landcruiser lj70 [creepycruiser]

Damn fine landcruiser, the 70 is defiantly my favourite cruiser, keep buying other cars and haven't been able to bring myself to sell mine
  44. H

    LJ70 Build Thread!

Can't do that either unfortunately, where the tie rod goes behind the axle the diff has to be a high pinion to clear it, a low pinion rear won't fit
  45. H

    LJ70 Build Thread!

Yep that's a high pinion front so not interchangeable with the rear diff
  46. H

    LJ70 Build Thread!

If the front is a high pinion diff it won't be transferable, easiest way to tell is if your steering tie rod is behind the axle it will be high pinion
  47. H

    LJ70 Build Thread!

Your diff code is g255, the g denotes 8" diff, 25 is a 4.55 ratio and the last 5 means 4 pin l.s.d

    Cv joint advice

Your best bet is to buy them and have them shipped over, now the bloke who was originally making the longfieds has kicked the bucket and I think trail gear has bought the name but isn't building to the same quality, I would go with CVS from rcv personally from here...

    iwan's 70's!

You won't be able to flex up a kerb with those plastic bushings in there, its bad enough with rubber bushes, I would recommend the pedders bushes, I have them on my kzj70
