Who is doing what maintenance today?

Big push over two days to get jobs done. Some I’ve had the parts for 18 months just not got round to it! Full service - all fluids and filters. Finally got round to removing ACSD and fitted blanking plate. Replaced kickdown cable and fitted new solenoids. Both surprisingly easily jobs...

    Lower swivel stud/nut security

Interestingly there is no torque spec for putting the studs in the hub as they don’t need to be tight. Just a slight pinch up will do. If all is clean and assembled properly they are unable to come loose due to the torque applied to the nut.

    Lower swivel stud/nut security

Yeh agree proper installation with clean dry threads is the major factor. Loctite is not needed. I installed some of the nut huggers when I did mine for peace of mind. If you drive off-road regularly, checking these nuts should be one of the regular checks.

    "tuned" profile fuel pins.

I fitted EGT about a year ago, same place in the manifold. I’ve a 3” exhaust but no pump tweaks. My numbers pretty much match. Highest I’ve seen is just under 1500f (~800c). Any climb in top gear with my foot down easily gets above 1300f (704c) usually hitting 1400-1450f (760-787c). These are...

Torque converter for 80 series 4.2 diesel automatic

The auto in a 95 80 series diesel is the A442F. This is made by Aisin Warner and used in other non-Toyota models such as Isuzu. The designation for this auto is AW450-43LE. Solenoids for the AW450-43LE can be had for significantly less than from Toyota and will fit the A442F. See here Solenoid...

Parasitic power drain from main battery

My alternator has just started playing up after fitting new 18 months ago. I have the 120amp version from a 100 series, not OEM, it is a pattern part from Roughtrax. I definitely would not buy this brand again. If you have the original Denso alternator I would just buy a new genuine regulator...

    LC80 (Dec 92) - 'turning ABS off'?

Milner is very cheap for good reason. Symptoms you describe indicate master cylinder. Whether you think OEM quality is overhyped or not, there’s little to match it and definitely not Milner. Fit OEM and be done with it.

    LC80 (Dec 92) - 'turning ABS off'?

I think increased tyre size, suspension lift and rear springs with a heavier load carrying capacity (that negate proper LSPV functioning) are all factors that undermine proper ABS functioning.

    LC80 (Dec 92) - 'turning ABS off'?

I removed the sensors and used plugs as felix2566 mentioned. Had to order from US but didn’t cost much. To pass MOT all visible trace of ABS must be removed and you need to pull the ABS bulb in the dash

    LC80 (Dec 92) - 'turning ABS off'?

Removing ABS and/or LSPV is completely legal when done correctly. Both improve braking, markedly so if running larger tyres. See https://www.landcruiserclub.net/community/threads/removing-the-abs.146500/

    LC200 suspension upgrade

As per my previous post I would suggest considering no lift unless you really need it. The Foam Cell Pro shocks are a much better shock than the standard and worth the upgrade. Simply fit with standard height springs instead of 2” lift springs. It is the spring that lifts the vehicle not the...

    LC200 suspension upgrade

The 200 is IFS so I would avoid any suspension lift unless absolutely necessary as will impact your front suspension travel. Standard height Foam Cell Pro would likely be a good option for what you describe. As Ben said above, if you don’t need any additional load carrying capacity I would only...

    Spring recomendations...

Ride quality will be far more affected by tired bushes and shocks than springs. Old Man Emu do standard height stock weight springs. May be worth trying a supplier that stocks them. A super cheap hack would be to fit spring spacers to get back to original height.

    Exhaust temps

I would suggest speaking to a good turbo specialist or doing some additional reading. Post turbo temperatures are next to useless. EGT probe needs to be pre-turbo in the manifold.

    Load sensing valve adjustment

Yeh exactly that. Solves problem of working properly but braking won’t be sufficient to offset bigger wheel size. The other thing that messes with it is having springs with a higher weight carrying capacity and more weight in the vehicle. In this situation rear braking will be totally inadequate.
  44. Lorin

    Load sensing valve adjustment

Before you do anything, adjust your LSPV to fully open (lift the arm up as far as it will go) - just use a cable tie or something, go for a drive and see how the brakes feel. LSPV is designed for standard height and 31 tyres. Whilst you can adjust for the lift so it works properly again, it...

    arduino & touchslide

Such a good idea this. I’ve wanted one of these since you built the first one. I already have some of the sensors, it would be great to replace all the gauges with a single screen. I’d definitely be interested to know what is involved. Could it also do boost pressure?
