    Full floater rear end!

Yeah, my son-in-law put that on, he has a current model 4 door Jeep Sport Wrangler, had to snatch him out as he bogged the jeep to the chassis rails the other weekend on the beach? I don't go off road other than 100% beach work so I am looking for a smooth soft ride. Have started the next...

    FJ40 - Complete Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness

Here in Australia there are 100's of 40 series hanging around and any number of them being striped for parts. I just bought another wiring loom from a 1983 HJ47 (super glow 2H) for $200 which was very carefully removed with plugs attached. A FJ40 petrol wiring loom would be even cheaper and more...

    Full floater rear end!

If you want to go the full hog on a 40, then you install 80 series suspension on a 40 series full floater axles and add disc brakes?

    Diesel vs Gas LJ70

This is what the all coil 70 series chassis looked like? You then take out the small diesel or petrol engine and you drop in a 12HT? Then you have economy, diesel and plenty of power

US vs NZ specs for 78 FJ40

NZ spec is the same as the Australian spec 40's, there will be less smog gear on the engine as well.

Hey Ben, liked your rear awning so I ordered one, 1.6m wide and 2.5m long? Going mount it here?

40 series chassis, 80 series suspension, 75 series 5 speed, 12HT Diesel, Disc Brakes

The MTZ's work well in the soft beach sand and I run them at around 17lbs. I don't do a lot of tarmac driving but they seem ok but I don't drive it much over 85kph on tarmac as I don't want to over heat the tyres with 17lbs in them. These MTZ's are 8 ply wall but if your driving more on tarmac...

40 series chassis, 80 series suspension, 75 series 5 speed, 12HT Diesel, Disc Brakes

Your right Ben, its a RJ70 Bundera, wheel base at just under 93", so instead of putting 80 series suspension on a 40 series chassis like I did last time I am using the RJ70 chassis I have.

40 series chassis, 80 series suspension, 75 series 5 speed, 12HT Diesel, Disc Brakes

The next one will be the same, extend fibreglass body once again to FJ43 size, 12HT, 5 speed, e-lockers all round on a all coil chassis.

    Engine Advice Please

Cheapest and quickest is get another 2F, not sure of your location and availability of a second hand 2F in your area but that's what I would do if its your first time rebuilding a 40. Its a good introduction into the inner workings of a 40 and you can always rebuild the old 2F over a period of...

    FJ 40 disc brake conversions

Long term coil suspension is cheaper to maintain, and a smoother ride. Coils don't rust like leafs do and can be swapped out in minutes and not hours like leafs take and coils are one tenth the cost of leafs. The chassis I showed you is a RJ70 1986 to 1991 (Bundera) which has coils all round...

    FJ 40 disc brake conversions

Hi, I had professional welder with a ticket welder the 80 series suspension components on so I would not have an Blue Plate registration problem with the Motor Transport Dept. I am not a certified welder and would have had trouble getting the engineering past on the suspension. As for all the...

If you want to do a quick disc brake using 60 series, use the 40 series top knuckle steering arms on the 60 series knuckles that way your 40 series steering rod armswill bolt straight on?

    FJ 40 disc brake conversions

Hi, the rear disc brake bracket kit I use is from Eureka Off Road in Victoria, not cheap but it is engineered & tested and has been fitted to I would say hundreds of 40 in Australia. I also use solid rear rotors from the Hilux 1983 - 1986 which use the same Toyota Calipers (4 pot) as the front's...

    My first 74 FJ

I dropped a 12HT with a 5 speed into mine? it just depends on two factors, how much money you want to spend & how much of the work you can do yourself? Also added 80 series suspension for a better ride.

So managed to fully complete the 40 over the weekend, gauges & switches installed. Also added an extra pre-air cleaner as the beach sand gets into everything. And installed the canvas top. Also placed another set of front coils in to lower the front by a inch.
