    Disc Brake Conversion for BJ40?

I'm pretty sure we still have a copy of the magazine in a box too. I particularly remember that trip because I was jealous of Ros overlanding with an old 40. I would've liked to have tagged along on that one. I'm building my 40 for similar travels; Morocco shake down next year (hopefully). These...

    Disc Brake Conversion for BJ40?

Rodger, I don't know if you've made the connection yet, but I believe that you were on Mudrut trip to the Pyrenees with your 40 several years ago. My other half was the photographer.

    Disc Brake Conversion for BJ40?

Hi Rodger, that would be great, thanks. I go to the UK a couple of time a year so that would be no bother. I was going to post something in the classifieds but as a 'new member' I don't appear to have the credentials to do that yet

    Disc Brake Conversion for BJ40?

Thanks Rodger. I used to drive a Series Land Rover with drums all round, and never had any issues stopping; they just need to be set up right. I need to buy all new brake components for the 40 anyway, so it makes sense to upgrade if I can do it at roughly the same cost. The trouble might be...

I get most of my parts my parts from cruiserworld.eu. Another good source this side of the pond is megastore4x4.pt.

Quick update. The gearbox is now in. It hasn't been rebuilt; it just came out so that I could replace flywheel, clutch, etc. Next up will be the axles, but it'll take me a few months before I get back to it.

    Disc Brake Conversion for BJ40?

Has anyone got experience converting a 40 to front disc brakes using Toyota parts? I believe I can do this using part from a 60 Series (so I'm in the hunt for a donor axle) but someone also mentioned that this might be possible using parts from a Hilux. I don't particularly want to use an...

    BJ40 Flywheel Torque Setting

I didn't loctite them, but that seems sensible given the uncertainty. I'll back them off and re-do. Thanks for your help; I really appreciate it.

    BJ40 Flywheel Torque Setting

Thanks Rodger. I've gone to 100 ft lbs, and don't want to go any further. If the '2H' is 87 then I should be well covered with my smaller 'B' engine.

    BJ40 Flywheel Torque Setting

Hi all, Sorry if this information is available elsewhere on the forum, but can anybody tell me the torque setting for the 6 bolts on the flywheel of my B engine? I found a reference to 130 ft lbs, but that seems very high, and I don't want to shear the bolts. If anyone could confirm I would be...

    Irish BJ40 Resto

Thanks barkev. Anyone else would have walked away from mine, or bought it for spares. It was worse then it actually looked, and it didn't look good. My rims are factory 16" and I'm running 235/85 R16. I've got a 4 speed, the baby 'B' engine, and no power steer, so I opted for a taller lighter...

    Irish BJ40 Resto

So what has happened since 2018? In truth, not a lot, but I've decided to stop buying food and clothes for my children in an effort to get it finished in the next 12 months. I havn't re-built the 'B' engine; I've just re-installed it with some new engine mounts. It ran when I took it out, so...

Back again (to finish the job...)

Hi everyone, I think I need to re-introduce myself because my last post was in 2018. Having kids and moving Country (twice) isn't good for restoration projects. I have started to make some progress with my BJ40 again though, and I'm hoping to get it back on the road in the next 12 months (he...

    Irish BJ40 Resto

Hi thelal, thanks for getting in touch. I'm no longer in Limerick. Now living in the UK. Still ferrying bits of my 40 over with every visit. In hindsight, it would have been easier if I had left it in one piece.

I think I said at the start that this would be a slow burner. Well, Rome wasn't built out of hay... Chassis finally blasted; and it's not as bad as it looks.

    Irish BJ40 Resto

Bob, I was lucky to find this one. I'm a big fan of the 60 too, but my Dad had a 40 when I was young and I've got great memories of it. I'm in County Limerick.

    Irish BJ40 Resto

Hi everyone, I've been encouraged to start a thread on my 40, so here goes... I was tipped off about this 40 last year by a friend who knew that I was desperate for one. This truck was in a container, complete, but very rusty. However, it's an original Irish truck and local to me so I had to...

    LJ78 Adjustable Panhard Rod

Hi Guys, thanks for the tips, links and advice. I would be slow about getting something fabricated for the simple reason that I wouldn't want to give my insurance company something to hang me with in the event of an accident (touch wood). I know, that's a whole other conversation. I've decided...

    LJ78 Adjustable Panhard Rod

Hi everyone, This LJ78 was our first Cruiser, and 'no'... it wasn't a good start. We decided to buy a Toyota because we needed something more reliable. A 2LT-E with a cracked head... I really do pick 'em. Anyway, we've treated our 78 to some EFS shocks, springs and castor correction...

Hi Guys, Thanks for the interest and encouragement. We were lucky enough to get the 40 Series' in Ireland but we didn't get to keep them for very long, the weather made sure of that. My Dad had a BJ40 when I was young, and I have wanted one ever since. They are getting very hard to find...

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and relatively new to Land Cruisers. I come from a Land Rover house but we recently bought an LJ78, and a BJ40 for restoration, so I'm starting to even up the odds. Looking forward to getting involved on here.
