1HD-FTE Limp mode - TPS issue?

Thank you very much for the great idea!:)

    Oil brand change

Okay, so I went with Motul 8100 X-Max 0w40 at the end. It doesn't have the CF specification unfortunatelly (only SN), but has ACEA A3/B4. Every other option - available in my country - was worse, so.. If my engine explodes, it explodes.. I've been researching this topic for months, and couldn't...

    Oil brand change

Thank you for your detailed comments! I could get Motul oils (Xmax 0w40 for example), but Ravennol is a bit pricey here (around 18 USD / liter) at the only place I could get it from:( I'll try to find a german shop that ships it to Hungary maybe. Thanks once again

    Oil brand change

I kind of agree. The only issue is that here we have -10 in the winter and 40 in the summer. And I'm afraid that the 15w40 would do damage in the winter. 10w40 perhaps?

    Oil brand change

That's my problem. The books says 10w30, but that's not sold in my country.

1HD-FTE Limp mode - TPS issue?

Thanks for all the responses. The issue didn't reaper yet, so I'm still hesitant about buying another accelerator assembly (they're not very cheap). Right now I'm hoping it was just a particle of dust sticked to one of the sensors/switches that cleared itself:)

1HD-FTE Limp mode - TPS issue?

Hi! My 2000 LC has developed an issue. Today after the walking the dogs & going home it throw a check engine light and went into limp mode. I've tried to shut down / restart the car, but the issue was still there. When I got home I've read the codes with TS, and this is what came up: After...

    Injector leaking

Hello! I've cleaned the intake manifold & replaced its gaskets some 10k kms ago. During that process I've also replaced al injector pipes and pipe clamps for new ones. Now nr3 injector has a light oil mist on the pipe right at the injector. I was wondering if it was worth touching it, and if...

    Oil brand change

Hi All! For the past 8k km's I was using Castrol Edge 5w30 C3 in the 100 (1HD-FTE). I liked it, but perhaps there is better, especially for the summer months as winters don't really go below -10 anymore here:) I feel like it gets a bit too thin in the summer heat. Was wondering if a 0w40 would...

Can the HDJ100 do 130kmh all day long?

So I've been using my cruiser @100kmh, because it drives well & I get good mileage. But it's a PITA on long (5-600km) highway trips. I've tried 130kmh, but it felt unstable & the engine was a bit on the loud side. The car has around 500k kms in it. Is it safe/possible/etc. to drive these at...

V-Belt tension - going in from above

Haha:)) Yeah, I've also remember something about the IC pipes.. But then it's probably easier to drop the skid and crawl under:( Merry Xmas:)

V-Belt tension - going in from above

Hello! 1hd-fte with aircon and viscous heater Is there a way to tighten the v-belt(s) (that runs the alternator) from above? I can do it from below, but I'm too lazy to pull the skid plate & lay under the car into the snow. And if there is, what's the trick to it? I just can't seem to get a...

    1HD-FTE Viscous heater bracket

Interestingly enough the (new) belt that drives the aircon and the viscous heater started to squeal today. I thought that the bolts came lose, but that's not the case. I've tried to adjust the belt, but the adjusting screw is behaving strange - it wants to come out of its bracket as I tighten...

    1HD-FTE which oil?

Hi! I know what the manual says.. 10w30 in summer, 5w30 in the winter. But lots of people are using 10w40, or 15w40. Some even 0w40, and reporting great results. I currently have 10w40 (bought it like this), and I find the oil pressures a bit high when cold and a bit low when hot, so I can...

    Belt Squeal

It's me again:D So I've replaced the alternator belts on my 1HD-FTE, and I don't know what the correct tension should be like. As per FSM: But if I set it this way (align the belts so the printings are side-by-side), then start the car, run it for a minute and shut it off, the (Toyota) marks...

    1HD-FTE Viscous heater bracket

These are the bolts in question: 2 of them (circles) go into the head, one of them is attached to the timing case. These 3 bolts hold this whole assembly to the engine: And these are the bolts: 4 lines & a dot Soooo.. That's what I have..

    1HD-FTE Viscous heater bracket

Okay, so it's a 10T M8 bolt & according to the FSM that means 38Nm, or 42Nm because it's Hexagon flange bolt. I don't think this is right & pretty sure that would strip the threads out of the cylinder head (alloy). I now went for 29Nm, but this already feels like it's on the edge of pulling the...

    1HD-FTE Viscous heater bracket

Yeah I've seen that table, it's just I'm not sure if it matters if the bolt is screwed into iron or into aluminium.. Because one torque value could be okay for one and strip the threads from the other I think.

    1HD-FTE Viscous heater bracket

Hello Again! I have a last question (for now):) I've asked it before in other threads, but perhaps this will get more attention. In order to take off the intake I had to remove the viscous (or power) heater mounting bracket (red circle): It is secured to the head ( I think, maybe one goes...

Possible paper towel left in intake [1HD-FTE]

Wow Guys! I appreciate the comments! Never thought it will generate this much input:) Okay, so with a fresh set of mind I went out and pulled the intake, and as expected nothing was in there. It wasn't that bad of a job, took only 15minutes. I have a love-hate relationship with this truck, but...

Possible paper towel left in intake [1HD-FTE]

Good idea & I've also thought of a borescope.. The only issue is the intake heater.. It prevents such things on the FTE.. And if I undo that.. well same type of gasket(s). I'll give this a sleep, but there are now two possible things 1, I'll try my luck and hope I haven't left anything in...

Cool, thanks. Or I might risk it & hope I didn't left the paper towel in there..

Possible paper towel left in intake [1HD-FTE]

So non reusable means that once you torque the bolts down it crushes (or something like that), and even if you just undo & redo the bolts right away, it won't seal?
  42. L

Possible paper towel left in intake [1HD-FTE]

Yeah, life with OCD.. I'm talking about the gasket "17116-17010". Toyota FSM says it's not reusable, but I've seen people reuse it - hence the question.

Possible paper towel left in intake [1HD-FTE]

So I was replacing the intake gaskets (intake to head), injector lines and what not. After putting everything together I'm not 100% sure that I didn't left a paper towel (white) in the intake - the large intake that bolts onto the head. Anyway, the question is, if I pull the cross-over pipe...

    Looking for an FSM

Hello all! I have a lot of FSM's, but can't find one that contains the charging system for the 1HD-FTE (the chapter in the 1HD-FTE engine service manual is not enough). I'm specifically looking for the torque values of the generator (alternator) & viscous unit. Cheers.

    HD-FTE - Fan Belt IP1 ?

Great, thanks! I assume the same goes for the bracket that holds the viscous heater to the engine block? Can't find an exact torque value for that as well:(

    HD-FTE - Fan Belt IP1 ?

Hello All! I'm trying to replace this idler on my HDJ100, and was wondering if anyone knows the torque value for it? I can't find it in the 100-series service manual or the 1HD-FTE repair manual:/ Thanks!
