    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

Ah ok. Changed the SCV on mine but not done the map filter. Presume this is the mass air flow meter filter?

    Back door card removal

I can't see an obvious way to start and remove the back door card from my 120. Presume it is clips but thought it would be better to ask here before I attempted to take it off. Any advice? Thanks

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

I have a new plan, it's called soundproofing! Mines a manual and there should, according to the Toyota mech I spoke to be a dose of soundproofing around the top of the gearbox. There's nothing there at all . It's not a noisy vehicle at all but it was the first thing the mech noticed. Doubt I...

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

Well I have to take their word for it and move on. There is a clue in the fact that the noise on my engine quietens down considerably when it comes upto temperature.......................just I don't know what that clue is telling me.....

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

That remains to be seen. Strangely enough in this last week the Cruiser has been starting better with no lumpiness or smoke and that was before it went to the dealer.

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

Ok, latest update for those of you who haven't lost interest. Cruiser has been at my local Toyota main dealer to have the injectors coded. It was in for two hours and they told me that my vehicle doesn't require the injectors coding which is what others have told me but now I have heard it from...

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

Ah ok, those have been replaced. Going to take the vehicle to a Toyota specialist across the Border, it's a bit of hike for me but it might but it might clarify the injector confusion and other stuff.....

Ah that might be a possible solution then, thanks

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

Both garages are local to me. One is a specialist engine builder who replaced the injectors for me, the other is a local garage with an excellent reputation with a all singing all dancing diagnostics that reveals all. The vehicle has not been to Overland Cruisers, they are way down south and I...

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

The engine in mine is definately a D4D, that I do know. I would be really happy if the advice I have been given is b*llocks. At the moment I don't know what to believe or what I should think. This complete injector coding and compensation values is a not something profess to know much about so...

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

Seems to know his stuff with 120s. I also quiried this with the reputable garage that fitted the new injectors and they told me the same thing? Who should I believe? I hoped they were wrong and it might be the cure but it appears not to be the case sadly. We have checked the ECU fault codes on...

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

Thanks for your replies, I was also sceptical about the codes and I have checked up and spoken to people who understand these things better than me ( Overland Cruisers ) and it is correct on my age of engine no codes are required. SCV?

Good starter but runs rough and a bit smoky until warm

My 2004 120, is a great starter and runner, but always run rough until it has warmed through. I wait whilst it goes through the prime cycle before I fire it up and although it starts instantly everytime the idle is lumpy to start with, almost as if it has a slight misfire. The injectors have...

    Fault code R1250

On a recent trip I had an engine management light come on and the vehicle went into reduced power. Found somewhere safe to stop, switched it off and had a look under the bonnet and underneath for any clues. Nothing to be seen so carefully started it up again and carried on with my journey...

I have seen numerous threads and regarding workshop manuals for the 120 series but just wondered what the present situation was and what was available? Thanks

    LC 120 EGR

Is there any noticable difference blocking off the EGR?
  19. S

    LC 120 EGR

No I didn't clean much else due to time constraints, I will have a look at the EGR delete posts. Will this not effect emissions for the mot?

    LC 120 EGR

You may have seen a previous post by me written as I try to get to the bottom of a chattery noise on my 04 LC 120. The noise is fairly prominent when the engine is cold and chatters away like a badly adjusted tappet but as soon as the engine comes up to temperature it is like somebody throws a...

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

Cleaned out the EGR valve over the weekend and although it is still a bit noisy when it is cold the chattering is much reduced now when the engine is warmed up. Certainly not as noticeable as it was before I cleaned the EGR, pleased with that bit of progress!

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

No it was done in front of me by a reputable local garage, there was nothing amiss to see sadly.

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

Ran the vehicle through a diagnostics today. No fault codes, errors or anything else relating to the engine or injectors was found. It wasn't Techstream diagnostics but not sure if that would show any difference. The fact that the engine made exactly the same noise with the old injectors in as...

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

I will go and explain this to my local garage, not sure I trust the garage anymore that fitted the injectors for me. Think I need to find someone near me in the Scottish Borders that really understands these engines...

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

Garage didn't enter any codes as they said they were not applicable to my age of vehicle but the noise was exactly the same when the old injectors were in. There is no history with the car after 111k and it is now at 135k so who knows if these were the original injectors that came out. Not sure...

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

That is what I was asking, the garage told me that my LC4 being a 2004 model was of an age that didn't require compensation codes and just wondered if anyone else had heard that? Don't think this problem would show up on a diagnostic device but I will ask next time the vehicle is in at the garage.

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

I have been doing some poking around trying to find others whose Land Cruiser has a similar problem and found this https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=60271 Success at last !!Toyota have given the dealer a new set of figures for the D4D 1KD-FTV 171bhp and I had the input this...

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

Exhaust system has been been smoke pressurised from the tail pipe up to the manifold because that is what we thought it was but it didn't find any leaks.

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

Wish it was quiet as a mouse once it has warmed up, the noise never goes away and on other 120s or Hi Lux that I have driven there is no noise like this.

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

I used to change the oil on my Land Rovers every 5000 miles and it was a good policy. My Cruiser has good service history up until 113k miles. It had 135k when I bought and in that time wasn't particularly well looked after so I'm trying to make amends. Will try putting diesel specific good oil...

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

Thanks for your reply. The engine is quieter than it was since its second oil change. I haven't removed the sump to check the pick up pipe, it would have been done when the injectors were changed but as the washers were good and not blowing past the sump was never removed. Oil has been replaced...

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

Thanks for your replies, no power loss the Cruiser goes well. I have driven other LC120s so I know what they should sound like, also my local garage is familiar with this engine mostly in the Hi Lux so also are aware of what they sound like. No fault codes have shown up. It's an annoying mystery!

    Noisy LC 120 Diesel

I have written a similar post on here before but I am determined to get to the bottom of this problem. 120 LC4 2004 manual, vehicle drives fine, starts well, goes well and has no flat spots. Engine ticks over smoothly on idle and isn't noisy but has a fairly loud "tappety noise" when you drive...

    Chattery noise on D4 engine

Sounds like the same as I am experiencing. Appears to come from the top left of the engine when you are sitting in the vehicle. The guys at Overland Cruisers have been really helpful to me and I'm sure would be able to diagnose the noise if they saw the cruiser. I'm in Scotland so a bit of a...

    Chattery noise on D4 engine

Seals were ok on the old injectors and replaced with new ones when the injectors were replaced so they aren't the culprit.....I wish they were
  44. S

    Chattery noise on D4 engine

No I don't have access to Techstream but the injectors were replaced with new ones, really disappointed they didn't cure the noise.
  45. S

    Chattery noise on D4 engine

"There is no history of the injectors being replaced and that was a common cause of the noise I was experiencing, new injectors fitted and the noise is the same" Doesn't appear to be the injectors as they have been replaced in the time I have had the vehicle........

    Chattery noise on D4 engine

I have a 2004 LCD4 manual with about 135K on the clock, drives well and goes well, doesn't chuck out black white or grey smoke. I have not had the vehicle long and it is apparent that mechanically the servicing was neglected by it's previous owner but I am rectifyiing that as I go. There has...
