Gearbox Fluid Renewal Without A Flush

Thanks guys. I'm not a stickler for the brands. As long as the oil is reputable and it meets the specs required then it'll do. Out of curiosity, what temperature would I be looking for really?

Gearbox Fluid Renewal Without A Flush

Yes sorry it's the 5 speed automatic gearbox. From what I can see there is a sump on the gearbox and inside the sump is a filter. I've also found out that it's £70(!!!!!) for this filter.

Gearbox Fluid Renewal Without A Flush

It's occurred to me that my 120 is at 165,000 miles now and there's a good chance the gearbox oil has never been changed. I've noticed a slight hang (sometimes) between gears, it's mostly smooth. But to ease my own anxiety with the car I should really get this done. I have had a quote last year...

    120 springs and shocks

Last year I had problems with the rear air suspension on my 120 which is LC5 too. Long story short the height sensor broke, lead to it over inflating, bent the bracket, then it kept chewing up air bags. Aside from that, the rear shocks were awful towards the end. Whatever would happen the ride...

    Injector Swap

Less MWHTC and more I'm Not Sure Of It. It has sort of behaved, injector wise. I still hear a tapping on and off, I don't think it's the injectors, it seems more random. But it's getting good MPG and feels alright. That said no doubt it'll decide to play up tonight! But the difference between...

    EGR - advice needed!!

Hold fire with this. You can’t just blank the EGR off. If you do you can run the risk of having the EML coming on all the bastard time. You can either get a blanking plate and drill a 7mm hole in the middle of it, or you can get the fuel trimmer thing from OzBush Electronics and blank it off...

Air Suspension Compressor - Rebuild/reconditioning services?

Cheers guys. I've bought a generic one for the moment but will get the current one reconditioned. At least then if it goes wrong then I can swap them without too much of a problem. Anything to get the bloody shock absorbers on this thing and to get it back on the road!

Air Suspension Compressor - Rebuild/reconditioning services?

Hi all, Been away for a while as my Land Cruiser has just been sat there on the drive doing nothing. A ride height sensor failed in November and I lost all care for the car to be bothered fixing it. Plus money was/still is tight. So I’ve had the ride height sensor fixed, and the burst air bag...

Have I knackered air bags on my suspension?

I noticed about a fortnight ago that the passenger side was on the wonk. Wheel was pulling to the right, looked at the rear and the left rear was down, the drivers side was all the way up. I didn’t drive it for a week as I had the option of another car. About 4 days after parking it up, I...

Adventures in EGR removal and fuel trimming

I seen his posts, without those I'd have never made the jump. I am going to email the guy who sells/builds them with a suggestion about it. I know you can have one that's controlled from the cockpit, but while driving I felt that I could've benefited from a button that would flip between two...

Adventures in EGR removal and fuel trimming

Managed to go on holiday last week to France, in the midst of a fuel strike which was nice. Also gave me the opportunity to see what MPG I get on proper long runs. From the midlands to Brittany in france, I averaged about 32mpg. That was mostly doing 70mph/130kph which I thought was quite...

    EGR replace or delete

When I did the injectors on mine I also did the EGR delete using the OzBush box of tricks. I've done about 6,000 miles since and it's been much cleaner and felt like it's driving better. Even after doing italian tune ups all of the black soot would come out and would come back after about 2...

    Scum

Yeah I’ve seen that now. People worried about stalking, which is fair enough. I think the SIM card ones work well too as they will be the one dementia patients have. They don’t know they have them as they don’t beep, but regularly handshake with cell towers so it gives you a rough idea where...

    Scum

From what I know no, it doesn’t alert them to anything. They’re about the size of a 50p coin. It’s just the location is dependent on another nearby iPhone to update Apple’s servers. So if an iPhone doesn’t go past it for a few days then it’ll just have the location of it from a few days ago.

    Scum

For what it’s worth, Apple do those Air Tags now that cost about £30 and they’re small enough that you could throw them in the door pocket or somewhere that isn’t obvious and you’ve got yourself a tracker. So if the scumbags get the car at least you have a much better chance of knowing where...

Random "pogo-ing" from the rear suspension - completely intermittent

Not been able to get round to Techstream but I’m fairly sure now my issues are to do with the dampers/shocks rather than the height sensors. It happened today on the motorway and I wasn’t able to do my usual pull over/turn off/turn on trick. What I did was stick the suspension fully to comfort...

Who is doing what maintenance today?

My 120 yesterday decided to slip its rear door. I think it had been hitting the catch awkwardly since I had it, but yesterday there was a distinctive whack against it. A trip to B&Q later, £5(!) on a bag of 12mm washers, the door now shuts like new. I’ve no strong friends, so I’m using breeze...

Replacement key or lock for the rear wheel cover?

Thanks for this. I had gone out today to put some new LED bulbs inside, new blades etc, and it occurred to me that I’m not sure where my lock nut was. Had a look in the glove box, and inside a lock nut box were two keys that fit the wheel cover. So I thought I was winning. Tried it and the...

I’m getting the truck ready for a trip to France in two weeks time, and going through the list of jobs to do I’ve realised that I don’t have a key for the rear wheel cover for my spare wheel. I never got them with the truck, didn’t even think about it. I’ve looked at the lock and can’t see a...

Random "pogo-ing" from the rear suspension - completely intermittent

I think I may have mentioned this elsewhere, but right now I've been told by the wife we're going on holiday in October and we're driving. My truck needs to behave, so other than a timing belt change I really do need to address an intermittent problem I'm having with the rear. This first...

Aircon, big or bigger bill approaching

They have. They identified that two seals going in to the condenser needed changing. That's been done, and over the 2 weeks the gas gradually escaped somewhere else. They've not identified any sort of UV leak since that. I'm wary of things like that, especially when the leak itself hasn't been...

Aircon, big or bigger bill approaching

It’s a slow leak which is the main problem. I saw them Wednesday and they were in the middle of doing it again. They have a Snap On sniffer tool thing and they’re putting it everywhere apparently and it’s not registering a leak. Anywhere. But it is leaking. So I told them to change the seals...

    Air suspension anomaly

I think in terms of the air bags it'll be fairly easy to see if they're knackered or not. Just stick your head under and have a look. Other way would be to stand at the back of the truck and see if you can hear the compressor engaging. If it is, and it's on for ages and nothing is happening...

    Air suspension anomaly

I'm not sure myself. From memory of the bit of an explanation I had is that it stops the suspension either going too tall or too small, and it can break so that the suspension has no real restriction in height. That's only a guestimate though

Adventures in EGR removal and fuel trimming

Can confirm that the diesel was the issue. I filled it from a half tank with the usual Sainsbury's stuff, and the full tank returned 28.5mpg. So I'm happy(!) there is no issue with the engine or the running.

    Self locking query

This. I have this issue, and realised it was the door switch. I open it and wiggle it a bit until I see the door open light on the dash, hold it a second or two, then just leave it. Doing that stops the car auto locking. Of course I have a door switch to go on the car, but I’ve not found the...

Adventures in EGR removal and fuel trimming

I don’t think it’s tyre pressures, they’ve been fairly constant. I am inclined to think the 24mpg has come from poor quality diesel. I’ve done 142 miles of my usual mixed driving and I’ve about used a quarter tank. I had used half a tank with the 168 miles I did previously.
