Thanks GOK. We got a new one, when we left in Sep22. Started having problems 1 month later. Muktiple visits to garages few of them Toyota in Dakar & Conakry. Had coil changed, didn’t help, no new alternators available anywhere in West Africa, tried atleast 20, second European spec ones, no good...

Thanks Tractionman. Back only for few days to get a visa. We have only managed to get far as Angola, Kenya still long way. I tell you we had such a hassle finding an alternator in West Africa, will be taking one as a spare with me this time :)

Thanks Surfy. Yes, Weight is big issue. We have ditched quite a few things like roof racks etc to compensate for the weight. Westcoast guys are sensible, they have also given genuine advise about it. My LC has driven on same tyres to India, multiple times to Northern Norway and they seemed ok...

Thanks GOK. We have decided to go for the Acayx rear bumper. I don’t like the look of tyre bolted on the rear door and some people have mentioned that in rough terrain the fixings don’t remain waterproof.

We do have spare underneath but the other one we used to keep on the roof. Don’t want the tyre carrier bolted to the rear door, I think it will be bit of hassle with rear door being in regular use due to Fridge/kitchen access.

Thanks Tractionman. He is on the case and has suggested we use an Acayx one. The issue is they don’t have it on their website & I want to have a look first so he has requested some photos from the company. Not to mention, it’s eye wateringly expensive

Thanks Howmanygoes. I had checked ARB they don't seem to have any rear bumpers. called Tuff Trek for Gobi X, they also don't seem to have any and not sure when they will get them.
